BLACKPINK has had a career of successful comebacks, what other group comes close (or could)?

  • hate BP so much you couldn't look past the title of the thread and actually answer smh...

Anyways, what about IZ*one? did they ever flop? I didnt follow them

As I have pointed out many times on this forum, Blackpink is/was one of my favorite group even if they are not top favorites, I just don't like their songs after As if it's your last, except for Lovesick Girls that is good. And I mean, they did have long breaks between the singels, you can't say they did not.....

  • Well that's sort of why I made this though, if you think there's a good case for mamamoo let your voice be heard! Success is of course relative across groups and I wouldn't expect many groups to be very successful into their final days. But if someone wants to come in and make a case for their favorite nugu (not mamamoo lol) I'm willing to listen.

Yama and I did that many times, and there's no reason to do this again, because BIG4 stans always mocking them and other groups.

Also, BP is nowhere near their final days as a group, and as soloists, they're rookies. That's why I always said, give them 5 years or so, and if they will produce just HALF of these numbers, color me impressed!

I think it's fair to say each BLACKPINK comeback has been very successful and I'd bet that will be the case until they retire. Are there any other groups retired/current you think come close to this or will? This is just for fun and just wondering what people think.

Answering to your question, BP is not the first Kpop group that did this, not even the 5th or 10th. Especially if we include boy groups as well.

99% of Kpop groups never produced and never will, numbers like BTS or BP, because most of them are not promoting outside of Asia, so talking about success, means different things when it comes to these 2 and other Kpop groups.

BP success relies HEAVILY on the fact that they have a comeback in every 2 years, and only release like 4 songs at best. If YG had done a yearly comeback like most Kpop groups, they wouldn't be as successful as right now.

In short: Success meant a completely different thing 10-20 years ago than it means now, and it's gonna mean something else in the next 10-20 years as well.

Groups like: BTS, TWICE and BP wouldn't have massive numbers in the 1st and 2nd gen for a reason, that's why saying, XYZ was/is the most successful as a group and as a soloist is just dumb. It's a different league in a different era.

I think some may have gotten a bit too hung up on my example of BP. I was only referring to their group comebacks, not their solos. This was not meant to be a BP praise thread, but they are kinda the mold of never having an unsuccessful comeback, even though they've had fewer comebacks than most.

And I wasn't talking about BPs level of success, that can't really be compared with others. I probably should've restricted this to top 100 on kcharts or something... :pepe-shrug:

But I appreciate your historical input as the elder gg stan

I know what you meant to say, I was just talking about overall, and these 3 groups are the examples.

I would bet my whole (not that big🤣) house that we won't see any Kpop groups producing numbers like BTS and BP in the next 10 years or so. Both of them got lucky in a way, because they became popular in the Golden Age of Social Media and Streaming. That's why other groups are not as mainstream, because it's not a big deal anymore.

But I'm pretty sure if we exchange Bigbang and SNSD with BTS and BP, they would produce the same numbers, because they already had massive numbers in their own generation without social media and streaming.

I mean, GG is the first girl group with 4 MV reaching 100M+ views. Doing that when fans didn't mass stream songs is a HUGE achievement. And that's just SNSD, I could name like 10 other groups.

Imo, streaming for some fandoms, NOT JUST BLINKS, became more like a JOB rather than a HOBBY!

Well I hope you are right, I'd hate to see you become homeless betting on BP and BTS

But I agree it will likely be a while until we see a group pulling numbers like that on all platforms, and BP/BTS got pretty lucky especially in 2020 with covid comebacks.

If you have an empty room, you can invite me if I lose my bet.😂

  • There is nothing extraordinary in BlackPink's achievements, the company worked 100%, developing each member and the BlackPink brand, that's why they have such success in music. But nevertheless, they never became a national group, and in Korea, Twice's influence is much higher than BP's. I like Rose more than the whole group.

The closest to them are NewJeans and Aespa. :pepe-use-head:
