YG Entertainment, failed to fill the gap of BLACKPINK, which was the company's main artist, and was in danger of turning into a deficit this year.

  • That was how I felt until recently. I listened to "SHEESH" and it confirmed it for me. I like them.

I need to finally watch the entirety of Last Evaluation.

It's funny cause Sheesh was the nail in the coffin so to speak for me. Gave them their chance. They didn't wow me.

So they are now at "can't be bothered to even listen to teasers/previews/new releases for them" level for me now. Ala ILLIT, nmixx, keplar etc

You guys are starting to get off topic. :pepe-hips:

Anyway, on first listen it might be outdated but Batter up is a bit catchy after a while.

“Like that” however remains their best song.

    What about MEOVV? :pepeflushed:

    Meovv kills on stage.

It's been a long time since I've seen a group that knows how to control a stage.

their song is still not for me yet, i'm waiting for banger

Hey. In our defense, the thread is about YG Entertainment failing to fill the gap of BLACKPINK, and we're talking about BABYMONSTER supposedly being YGE's solution to fill that void. :pepe-shrug:

Glad you agree! I didn't like "Batter Up" at first, but I learned to appreciate it eventually. It still wouldn't be high up on my list of favorite BABYMONSTER songs. I prefer "SHEESH," "Forever," and "Like That."

"Stuck in the Middle" is alright, but it sounds a bit generic, too reminiscent of existing songs in western pop. Another ballad would have been a better choice, and I already know the members would do amazingly.

I'm glad you think so! Taste. You see the vision. These girls have incredible stage presence.

Fair enough. I didn't like the song at first listen, but it grew on me so much and it easily became my most listened song within the past couple months. It's really unique.

    Their rapping and vocals.

The choreo is fun. I like how it incorporates cat references and movements. For their last two stages during promotions, they switched up the dance break to double down on the "catness" even more. I loved that.

Can't wait for their 2024 MAMA performance!

  • Wow, you're really giving them three strikes like baseball. "BATTER UP" by BABYMONSTER indeed.

I give most groups, especially hyped ones, a few tries around to see if they hit, depending on their initial concept.

I don't usually get hyped up about pre-debut stuff, primarily it's gotta be the music that hits for me to show interest in the other stuff.

For MEOVV, like I've said before, the potential is there for me but the song MEOVV just didnt hit me. It's not awful like... other groups debut... it was just a bit flat and lacking energy/oomph.

  • I was so jealous when you got Anna special meovv badge

Yes I saw the choreo change, it's always fun to watch their performance.

Vocal and rap are really promising. Actually I expect a lot from meovv.

I wasn't expecting my badge, but I'm so grateful to have it. :holding-back-tears:

But don't be so jealous... MEOVV badges are coming! You can vote here. It's the last day to vote, so be quick if you're interested!

Somehow I keep getting surprised when I find more people who like MEOVV. Even if they don't like the song, it's cool to see people praising the girls' stage presence or something else.

I'm wondering if they'll release another song or maybe cover a song during their upcoming performance. They only have one song, so that seems short for a MAMA stage.

  • This was always expected though? 2023 was the big world tour from Blackpink and this year there was only Treasure on tour. Blackpink, Babymonster, Treasure and maybe 2NE1(?) will have their tours next year.

Babymonster could've been #1 on every chart in the world and the financial issues would still be there because touring is where the big money is at.

YG has to rebuild the next 3-4 years and it shouldn't be to much of an issue since Babymonster are already attracting big numbers just for fan meetings.

yeah, it's not like YGE will be suprised, it's goes up and down. . Some years are slower and they are focused in building up new groups or preparing for comebacks, others are more profitable with more comebacks, albums and tours. But sure, maybe they have hoped for more from BM. But this business is a bit of a gamble also, hard to know which groups will be a big money winner.

  • For now, we can assume that after blackpink, treasure's activities bring in the most money for them, but that will probably change.

I think that next year their finances will be more stable with blackpink and winner’s returns, the nbg , and the tours of babymonster teasure, 2ne1, and blackpink.

And if they give comebacks to all their artists and avoid favoritism like this year.
