I've been seeing a major problem that plagues the K-pop multiverse. It is K-pop YouTube's perpetuation of negativity for views. Are we going to let our faves and our fandoms be used and abused for clout like this?
Instead of fighting each other, we need to combat the real enemy, the common enemy: K-pop YouTubers who constantly shame, ridicule, and bash our favorites, even spreading misinformation and disinformation in the process.
They may portray their content as "just reporting what the Koreans/K-netizens are saying," but the fact that they purposely use unflattering images of our faves as clickbait is extremely disrespectful. It's as if they're indirectly shaming them, using the quotes of netizens as a cover. These YouTube channels need to be stopped. They know exactly what they're doing, yet they pretend they're innocent. The following are examples of what I'm referring to. I'm putting them in a spoiler because they're potentially triggering.
Then, there are the K-pop YouTube channels whose objective is to "critique" while exaggerating the situation, using negativity as bait. This is why I fight so hard for MEOVV. Whether or not you like their debut is preferential, but it definitely doesn't imply whether or not it's failed debut. They're doing just fine.
Let's take a look at LE SSERAFIM. They became a target for these YouTube channels shortly after their Coachella appearance, but in reality, they're still loved by K-pop fans worldwide. Chaewon is still "that girl."
They're also sensationalizing the NewJeans situation as if to demonize the girls for speaking out, calling this their "downfall" when that's far from the truth.
These are just some examples, but such content exists pertaining to basically everyone's favorites. To emphasize, these YouTubers are arguably worse than those who hate on K-pop; they're misusing idols and taking advantage of fandoms for views.
We should not let this slide. It's time to put an end to this. It doesn't matter what fandom you're from. We need to unite in solidarity for a common cause, in alliance to fight the common enemy.
Vive la révolution.
