It's a variety of things. Some people like to support their favorites and that if their artists win, charts, or streamed well, they feel the relief that the artist is still being loved. Some might like giftings, and the best gifts they can do is $$. Same as if you don't have money and so you support as much as you can: stream. It's a sense of fulfillments. Like one of IVE's song IAM "You are someone's dreams come true", Kim Eana is a genius lyricist!!
The other dark side is, bragging rights. Which I think may be the topic of your anger? My faves won over yours so Im better. It still the self fulfillment through artists, but a more crazier way? You can look at it however you want. The same thing when artists is an ambassador for brand deals, those clothing, purse, wallet, or whatever is advertised, gets sold ASAP. Do people think people buys it because its pretty, or do they think they will look like their idol if they wears it? Very materialistic, but that's how it is.
Food for thought; maybe it's a cultural phenomenon- where comparison between family members, friends, and societal are so apparent and engraved within the lifestyle that 'He has', 'she has', but 'I don't have' kind of mentality. So people feel the need to stan the best to become the best, and compare themselves to the 'not best' and say 'I won'?
Maybe it's a perception thing, where you want the idol to LIKE you, because you're spending so much money. Have you ever noticed that famous celebrities majority of the time getting things FOR FREE, even from random everyday regular folks. Why is that so? They're rich enough, why give free things? Is it because we wanted to look good in their eyes? Is it because we like them so much, or our perception of them are positive to the extend of free gifts?
