Why won't SM let Giselle rap or give her a solo rap like Jennie's DDU-DU DDU-DU rap?

  • I love aespa OT4 but I've been dying to hear a solo rap from Giselle like Jennie's DDU rap and Ningning's "I'm a Stunner" rap in Drama could have been given to Giselle.

Is it Giselle's request to not give her so many lines? We know Giselle is talented to rap solo

  • This is my question everytime aespa make a comeback

Actually it seems that since LSM and YYJ left giselle doesn't have any rap part in the title track while she used to have one in everysong till spicy

I hope she's going to rap in her collab with bol4

Did LSM have anything to do with Giselle being a rapper? Because Ningning never rapped until Drama

  • Maybe she will get to do it here

I really have to ask...... do people think that's a good rap? Seriously?

I haven't analyzed every line, but for major parts only one rhyme per line, the flow is.... very very simple.

It's almost uniform throughout the song. That's not to say that's not common with much of hiphop, where flows are very simple and repetitive, but generally they make up in the other 2 ways (rhymes and wordplay).

There's no wordplay, it's played straight up and down.

3 Major things make rappers - flow, rhyming, and wordplay. That rap is extremely simple in all 3. Beat also is pretty shit (but that's not her fault). There's absolutely nothing appealing about the rap in all 4 aspects of it, 3 of which are tied to Giselle. The one good line (or phrase rather) was already used by Janelle Monae previously, so questions are asked about how it was written.

Maybe she's not getting much rap opportunity because she's just not very good, at least not good enough to make her a focal point of a song with an extended rap section?

  • do you think she is not very good in comparison with her group mates ? her rap line in Spicy is a focal point of the song.

  • it's happening :teddy-pepe::pepe-hype:

I just think none of them are good enough to basically carry an extended rap verse on themselves.

That's why Aespa mainly focus on vocals, and the rap lines are interchangeable and short. Which makes sense.

I mean yes I know Jennie doesn't write her own raps either, but Teddy was actually a very good rapper in his days of 1TYM and can write very solid rap lines - that's why Blackpink can use rap as a fulcrum for their songs.

Aespa's producers, wisely, at least recently, have ensured they highlight the vocals of the girls and ensure they don't get bogged down trying to proper raps - keep it short, simple and easy, and switch parts between the girls to create a dynamic perception.

If you want Giselle to get more lines - go for it I guess. But asking her to do a full on rap... I'm not sure that serves her or the group well. It smacks to me more of fans wanting something to brag about then thinking about making the song the best it could be.

  • Giselle is a good IDOL rapper, you’re writing an essay as if op said she was Eminem’s level. Giselle is by far the best rapper of the group and even winter despite being the lead vocalist has more raps than Giselle. :pepefacepalm:

  • You're taking this way too seriously.

  • it's not something that we want to brag about. we just want her to get the same treatment as other girls. she has position as main rapper in every profile but has little/lesser rap in their songs.

They finally gave Ningning high note song part in this CB. There's no need to make it sound like Ningning is getting the most parts. When they give short line to Ningning, Giselle's parts are better. When they give the line to Ningning, the parts they give to Giselle are very short. In conclusion, what you have to complain about here is that Winter and Karina are always given plenty of the best parts. Because these two are the most popular members, they give them all the parts the most.

So in my opinion, if you're an Aespa fan, it's a bit challenging to be a Ningning and Giselle fan. Even during the dancing parts, the camera focuses less on Ningning and Giselle in music shows. Winter and Karina are very talented, okay, but the company has never released a song where all 4 members can shine and get an equal share. Korean nationalism definitely plays a role in this. If Blackpink's most famous member Lisa couldn't break their prejudices, no other foreign idol can.

  • Fans don't know or just forget that there's a good reason why some member in any group don't get many lines.

Because they're not that good to do that, or it's not their style. Aespa is not a rap heavy group, their rappers are average at best. And yes, in Kpop that's good enough, but let's be real. 90% of the Idol rappers are basically the same.

I mean, let's just compare that short video of Giselle with Jennie or any other female rapper from the BIG4. They're sound the same. That's why op mentioned Jennie in the first place, probably, because that style would suit Giselle too.

I know many fans think, they sound cool, but for me, this style is bland and boring nowadays. It was trendy in the early 2000s. This "acting cool and rapping in your face" style has to go, especially if the one who does it, are not even that good at rapping and don't have a good flow. A lot of fans think, rapping is all about talking fast. I've seen so many people arguing that Jennie is the best because she's the fastest. 1st, that's not even remotely true, and speed has nothing to do with rapping.

Honestly, I think Kpop agencies should teach their rappers to be more versatile. Especially BIG4 agencies, because they're the only ones whom are lacking in talent.
