Since Wonyoung and Yujin promoted as Izone for two years, is it safe to assume their "Ive contract" is only 5 years?

  • I really wonder how does that work, they clearly had to sign an exclusive contract with Starship to be able to promote with Izone. And since 7 is maximum it means they are already halfway through the contract, right?

Sakura and Chaewon had to sign a new contract, since they changed their aency but Wonyoung and Yujin didn't have to resign unless they wanted to, so I am really curious how it was or is going to be handled.

Edit: it is not even half as I said previously, Izone debuted in October of 2018, so technically their original contract is supposed to expire in less than 2 years.

  • I agree with catzi , they were probably under trainee contracts. Which also means those poor girls (and all the rest of Izone) may not have earned much or anything at all from all their hard work. Every cent they made coulda gone to CJENM, Starshit, Woolim, RBW, Yuehua, etc.

This is one of the reasons why i have made my peace with the disbandment, those girls deserve to get paid for all the amazing things they did for Kpop and their fans.

Ideally though, we shoulda seen a permanent Izone happen in 2021 with Hybe managing their promotions, LSRFM's performance director coming up with their choreo and stages, and Starshit's Ryan Jhun and others coming up with the songs. Probably would be breaking 10 million in total album sales soon if they had continued on.

By now, we woulda also seen some amazing subunits and solo debuts too (although tbh the actual Izone solo debuts have been effing AMAZING, multiple SOTY contenders and the best B sides in the business in recent years).

  • I'm thinking they've got a standard seven year contract

I also differ from bphouse and catzi above that they signed pd48 and izone contracts that obviously benefited the companies behind them much more than wy/yj personally but I do like to think that they have an "above average" ive contract???

  • I think they made bank with cfs and stuff though, especially wonyoung. starship maybe did a generous deal with them. i doubt she would renew if she thought she wasnt getting paid enough in her early years, pretty sure both got tons of generous offers and could have after walked out before signing contract for ive, like some of other ex-izone members did with their contracts. I keep thinking how true it is about starship being the company that pays idols the highest, especially how sistar were all rumored to be millionaires.

  • Technically they were trainees when they got into Izone, for Ive it's most likely they had to sign another contract but I'm just guessing

Is it possible to promote in the industry with a trainee contract tho? Sounds weird to me

Technically they were starship trainees when they debuted in i*zone, not starship idols, and i*zone wasnt a starship group either so... Idk how was the profit for the idols and company but i assume each company profited a bit from the group and image of their respective idols, and another smaller portion went to the idols themselves... But i'm just guessing.

Thats why yujin and wonyoung probably got a new contract for ive, since it doesnt involve a 3rd party anymore, wouldnt make sense for the terms to be the same now that they are only attached to starship and the contract for izone ended.

I think you need an idol contract to be able to promote as part of a project group. I remember once an independent trainee made it into the lineup, it was WannaOne if I am not mistaken and the member had to sign with agency before promoting.

Of course, but the thing is, in i*zone the term involved a 3rd party and the contract obviously already ended.

So for ive, they would have to sign a new, different contract that is only between them and starship.

  • I think their contract started at the same time as the rest of Ive’s members because I remember that Yeonjun form Wsjn was part of I.o.I for almost a year and then joined Wjsn and her contract was up for renewal at the same time as the rest of the girls

WJSN debuted while the Produce 101 show was still going on, so the timing of the contacts was similar.

I guess we can look at Wiki Meki, you would expect the contracts for the 2 IOI girls to end before all the other members, but as far as we know, they are all up for renewal next year.
