no izone member, no music show promotion, coming from flop company, yet they manage to did it. the demand is definitely there for international wise

  • Aside the debut song, Fearless is a hit album as most of the bside on the album performed well for Le Sserafim.

Also why isn't NewJeans there on the list? Weren't they doing well on Spotify since debut? 🤔

The unique case seems to be NJ, with their debut songs reaching high volume streams after a month of release because they gone viral everywhere :thinkerpepe:

    Week 1

    Attention - 5.45M
    Hype Boy - 4.78M

    Week 4

    Attention - 8.1M

    Hype Boy - 7.7M

Week 4 might not even the biggest especially for Hype Boy.

  • Funny story. Me, my niece and her friend heard Batter Up on the radio, and while I felt I’ve heard it before, my niece and her friend never heard of it yet. And we were racking our brains to figure out who is singing this song and why it’s so dated and kinda meh. I was quite confident its a new song from a Malaysian kpop wanna be group Dalla (because their songs have BP-like structure to it), but then when the chorus came, I was like.. oh its YG new GG! And my niece and her friend (both were into kpop before but not so much now) were shocked.. and then immediately we felt that its an ok song, very YG..

So my point is that once we know its from YG, our POV shifted and felt like the song is kinda a bop. That is how strong the YG label is. Crazy.

This is actually quite a valid point.

Like only YG and JYPE can make songs like Batter Up and O.O and get away with it.

If it was a nugu group people will be "it's because they don't have good songs of course no one is going to check them out"

maybe youre just slowly growing to it, which is not surprising, btw dalla is also good xixi

  • Given the lackluster domestic performance for now, I take the Youtube/Spotify numbers as more an indication of how much BP's global fandom is checking for the new YG girl group. This might be a useful benchmark to measure their performance going forward - whether the rate of growth continues from here, or when compared to future releases.

Will also be interesting to see in the event Batter Up becomes a hit overseas, whether that will incentivize Korea to pay more attention to them. This happened for Fifty Fifty - Korea didn't appreciate Cupid as much initially, but when they charted on Billboard and made the news in Korea, Cupid started to climb the Melon chart.

But that's quite a tall order, and if I were YG, rather than taking the position, "Batter Up is a bop, Korea just doesn't get it," I'd rather err on the side of caution and take it as a message to figure out how to adjust and make improvements for the next release.
