Before BTS there was EXO. I mean right now there is no huge boygroup that has gripped Korea. I mean there is but they are currently in the military. Since basically 2013 until 2022. Either EXO or BTS were dominating award season. Meaning Girl groups could really only win secondary awards like SOTY. This is the first year in over a decade where there is not a mega boy groups snatching those awards. But even saying that NJs had such a fantastic year that they might have won regardless. They did great.

That’s true, it’s the year for girl groups it seems. When Exo was active, awards were still being split between all the big names, like there was no outright one group dominating, ahhh I remember those days lol 😂 I blame BTS, they’ve dominated every award since 2019 as no one has came close to their numbers, since the BWL era. Although without them or another big act, these award shows do seem to be invisible, I forgot it was on this year 😂

Well next year is the only chance for girl groups because BTS will have a comeback in 2025.

We always have the "they won buuuut the competition..." Or "BTS is on hiatus".

Indeed, if NJ had to face BTS 2020 they weren't going to win ArOTY, but if NJ won this year it wasn't because of the lack of competition.

If BTS won MAMA ArOTY last year is because many ggs underperformed and the ones performing good didn't do as good as NJ this year. If NJ didn't have completely insane numbers, way better than any other gg previous years overall both domestically and internationally, MAMA wouldn't have hesitated to give ArOTY to Seventeen. This year of NJ would have won ArOTY in MAMA last year too without ANY doubt.

If NJ have had the typical gg comebacks with 1 hit in each one of their comebacks they'd have given the MMA ArOTY to NCT Dream, but they released so many hits in the tracking period that they made mathematically impossible for other artists to win (special mention to Ive since they did something similar, actually if we talk about a gg having bad timing it's Ive this year because they had to face NJ). IU won 2 daesangs at MMA 2021 too vs BTS and other bgs and this year of NJ is better than IU's, if no other gg won this year or in 2021 or in 2014 when IU won too or in 2015 when BB won, both vs Exo peaking in Korea... is because none have performed like NJ this year.

Yes, there're some years that BTS would have blocked everything, but let's not act like if it's the sole reason, you can put NJ numbers against any other gg numbers in any year you want and this is bigger, and this year of NJ would have swept almost all the MMA daesangs in any year and more than one MAMA ArOTY. The urge to mention the lack of competition is just to try to drop that there're other ggs that didn't win because they were blocked as if they did as good as NJ this year when it's not true.

As a girl group to win Artist of the Year you need to leave no doubt which NewJeans did.

The award shows will try and find every reason to award boy groups the biggest awards if possible
