Are you surprised that a Japanese artist beat TREASURE on the MTV European Music Award?

  • I just saw it on Twitter, the JPop-group BE:FIRST won as "Best Asian Artist" this year

  • It's hard to say, both are super super popular and BE:FIRST had some great releases this year in my opinion

    Same. I really love BE:FIRST

When the CEO of their company opend up he was holding a survival show (not backed by a big TV station, not produced by a big filming team, not sponsored by any company, all done with just the savings the dude had on his bank account) I was a bit sceptical at first since yeah SKY-HI may be the most popular rapper in Japan, but that still dosn't mean he could form a group that would make it in Japan, but he menaged to proof everyone wrong. I mean he said shortly before his company reached their 2nd anniversary that trought having BE:FIRST he menaged to make 7 million $ and grew his company from 3 to 27 people, now there are over 30 since he has at the moment 4 soloists, 2 groups with a total of 15 members and 4 trainees, which is a lot for a company that just opend in 2020.

SKY-HI said back than he started by giving all his savings out, which had been 1 million for the survival show and aditionaly 2 million to build the company and than had no more money left, seeing he made more than 10 million $ by now in 2023 is crazy

And BE:FIRST is also doing so well, I mean they constantly trend in Japan when they release new music, have very high MV views and people in Japan said they like their music so much, that they are having the most favourite songs of Japanese people in 2023, is crazy tho. I mean sure, they don't sell as high as a Johnny's group or JO1/INI but they are still freakingly famous and allways menage to sell up to 200K on releases, thats a lot for a boygroup in Japan since many groups do not sell that much anymore (unless you debut under Johnny's cause even of the music sucks a group in this company mostly allways makes it big in Japan)

I was also quit surprised how far BE:FIRST goes by only having debuted 2 years ago. I mean they already collabed on a song with the Britsh producer Jonas Blue and are going to release a movie, that even comes out in Korea and some JPop-stans say them releasing their movie outside of Japan must mean they could have great potential to someday make it big outside of Japan, but since they arn't really much promoted outside Japan yet, altho SKY-HI said he tries to get his company known outside of Japan, I wonder if it might work out someday, like it would be crazy if JPop gains popularity more and more and than people would be like "Ah SKY-HI and his company BMSG, I know the artists he has and like their music" lol. You know what I mean

  • That is very true, I'm still surprised though. What great competition.

It didn't seem like that long ago I was one of the comments congratulating JO1 for hitting 1 Million views and asking JAMS different questions after that Asian Boss(?) interview, it also feels not long ago until INI debuted.

    Wow does time fly lol.

And now Lapone also has a 3rd group, wich is DXTEEN and are curently holding the 3rd season of PDJ to form their first girlgroup (I so mch hope Ran makes it, I know her since she was in Girls2 and so I was super surprised when she had left LDH in May of 2023 and than returned as participant of PDJ in October)

And SKY-HI also has so many artists in his company now

And from the 4 trainees it seems like that 1 of them could potentionaly debut as soloist, since this boy called Taiki got a pre-debut solo (I'm not really a fan of that song, same goes to edhii boi's music but I do like everyone else from SKY-HI's company and wonder if the 3 other trainees maybe debut as group or go solo)

  • Japan is a big market.

I know their rock bands are sometimes popular in Europe, but I do not know if their pop acts are popular in Europe.
