A general decline of KPop seems to have occurred

  • it is a funny thing where peak is what leads to the decline. Because i don't think enough fans realise that peak is what gives identity to kpop the most. Everything 2nd gen worked hard for was destroyed. kpop's identity needed to be preserved by the biggest acts. it's a failure in many ways but i also understand it is a daunting task to have all of them not explore their own self interests in english. . private companies and artist greed is not even the fault here. It's the fans fault. For fans, once they listened to predominantly english songs from their faves and breaking records, going to korean is like downgrading again. It's like going from coke to water. it doesn't hit the same anymore. It is sad tbh the state of kpop right now.

  • But the biggest problem is that the song of the newer groups are just not good enough..... or too few good songs.

I agree with this. There's just been such a decline in quality of music. K-Pop is not like it used to be obv, but personally speaking, what got my attention was the 2nd gen of K-Pop. And with 3rd gen, the music did change but it still had great quality. Nowadays...Not so much. (Again, personally speaking)

An example: I love TXT, but their comeback was a sigh for me. Lackluster and underwhelming. Everything felt recycled, from concepts to clothing, music to choreo. It's weird too since TXT are known to do something different in K-Pop...

No one could really understand the Korean lyrics, as seen in the songs of IU falling far short in the West.

The lack of popularity of Korean lyrics led to the end of Korean being used in KPOp songs. Again IU is the last good lyricist who predominantly wrote in Korean.

Plus, with more members coming from outside of Korea, using Korean lyrics seems to be sillier.

2Gen mostly concentrated in Asia, while with the expansion of Kpop a new paradigm was needed. It is important to remind that Lee Jieun is the last standing of the 2nd Gen because she didn't really leave Korea. Her domesticity, and complete irrelevancy outside of Korea, is what made her popularity in there last, although she was never really popular outside of it.

It has been completely corporated. All the songs and movements are designed to bring the most buck. So the music falls to the lowest denominator.

  • By later half of 2024 none of BTS members are likely to be around to release songs, and the 4th gen is finally on its own while the likes of IU, encouraged by Akmu's defeat of Jungkook, will make a big move. The failure to eradicate melon will hurt BIG.

If you put aside whynock absurdly insane takes about IU you can find some great insight about kpop there and there. :pepe-notes:

Melon prominence will probably disappear without the need of anyone, the platform is losing users each year, the songs on the top right now have like 20%-30% less listeners than last year. The decrease of listeners made charting outside top 10 for like 50 weeks straight up meaningless, songs like Cake from Itzy and Teddy Bear from Stayc barely got ~10M streams after weeks on the top 25. IU will lose influence with time and the decline of melon, but she will always be successful.

  • well I can't expect Kpop to peak year after year after year after year after year after year after year

    that's just impossible

eventually it will level themselves out at a certain level while decline and incline depending on factors throughout the years to come

as long as Kpop acts and companies still making good profit at the end of each year then its not a huge thing to worry about

Unfortunately, with Korea's declining birthrate, her grips will actually get stronger as the older listeners refuse to leave Melon and fewer newer listeners replace the holdouts

The 4 heavenly kings of Hong Kong, Jackie Cheung, Andy Lau, Leon Lai and Aaron Kwok, are still going strong in their 50s-60s. It seems Lee Jieun is following their model

Melon actually got stronger after the Fifty Fifty affair. JK had to be aware of the Melon issue and had to deal with Korea, and since New Jeans is more prominent in Melon, it is seen as the premier act in there.

  • I think we should all take bets on how soon WhyKnock declines...and gets a real job...a life and touches grass...so they can stop obsessing over an idol who doesn't know they exist and putting everyone else around them down....

Unless WhyKnock just can't leave momma's basement...

I will probably decline when the Senior Singer decides to leave showbiz, but she had said she will continue to sing when she is in 70s and 80s so not anytime soon.
