What’s TTH?
Do you think new jeans Spotify is really representative of their popularity in the US?

New Jeans are seen as pretty hip, I have quite a few friends here who are adjacent to kpop (they've heard of the popular groups but don't actively check out kpop releases) who like NJ's music and said they'd be willing to see them live once they tour north america.
Right now NJ are still mainly in the kpop sphere but they're considered "cool" in a way that a lot of other kpop isn't.

I’ve seen the same. Lots of crossing over into audiences that listen to less mainstream music as a whole (as in not kpop, not mainstream western music either)

That’s a bit counter intuitive to their Spotify charting lol. People who listen to popular music are listening to them that’s why they’re charting. Which makes sense they’re releasing pretty standard pop music that’s meant to have broad appeal.

they have a lot of casual listeners outside of the kpop crowd

If you believe their Spotify and ignore that they have massive playlisting, high places on several US playlists, take advantage of autoplay, etc ..
If you believe their streaming numbers are fully legit based on recent comebacks they are more popular in the US than BTS, their solos and Blackpink.
I think they are popular in the US with casual Kpop fans and have a growing fanbase.

I’m half and half tbh. I believe they’re really popular over all tho.

No I don’t believe so. What I meant to also say was I disagree I don’t believe they have a cool quotient.
rapidly moving into splitting hairs territory here, but what is a cool quotient

I think their streams represent how well-liked their music is in U.S. K-Pop spaces, which basically makes them a more consumed artist in comparison to their peers. But I don’t necessarily know if those streams represent the relative brand power of their name if that makes sense? Like, someone from the U.S. who knows BTS might not know any other K-Pop group, but someone from the U.S. who knows NewJeans is likely invested in K-Pop enough to know other 4th gen groups like Stray Kids or TXT for example. Of course, there are probably some casual listeners that stumble across their music, but I’m not sure how common that is
But that’s just from my own experience. I still believe BTS, BP, and Twice hold the most brand power purely by name in the U.S., but maybe NewJeans will shake things up once they start touring.

i think they have a lot of casual listeners and im attributing this to tiktok because they keep blowing up there for every release. This is why they're releasing tiktok friendly songs now lmao. it also helps that they get good playlisting too. isn't that how new people discover music on spotify.
I've seen many really famous twitch gamers casually mentioning them mid-streaming like Valkyrie. also got a shock when Mr beasts right hand Carl said he loves newjeans. these are people who haven't ever talking abt kpop but are all praises for newjeans.
