NewJeans Danielle - Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid OST)- Does she really sounds terrible?

  • the hate was due to a few different factors:

    1) other countries used legitimate voice actresses who are trained vocalists. Korea has them and their skills are amazing. people felt it was unfair that a rookie idol got the spot that was deservedly reserved for professionals in this niche. Danielle is not there as a singer. although this sounds very good, it left a bitter taste in people's mouths.

    2) Min Heejin's interview in which she spoke out against vocal training and said her idols don't practice their vocals as she prefers "natural voices" (whatever that means) came out. people were floored over their ignorance. if you don't practice your skills, you can become a worse singer, not a better one. every vocalist needs to do vocal exercises, practice and hone their skills (professionals can give you a better picture of this)

    3) Danielle's pronunciation was called to question. she is not a native Korean speaker. her pronunciation is not perfect. people were dissatisfied with that as well.

so, this is all the company's fault and disney's fault as well. not Danielle's.

  • I enjoyed it. I think she would sound better if she sings in English.

People should stop the fake concern. It's a done deal, there's nothing you can do about it no matter how jealous you are unless you just want to hate. ;judgingpepe:

She sounds fine. It's pretty clear Danielle has been the victim of a pretty intense hate train. If people actually just cared about the casting choice then they would have said thier opinion and left it at that. But I think it's obvious the people dogpiling her have different intentions.

    where'd you read this?

  • where'd you read this?

on twitter, if i find it i'll post it

i think it was the part of the same interview where she said she didn't like random raps in songs and obligatory super high pitched parts (which are things i agree with her 100%)

are you sure you're not thinking about Newjeans not using vocal guide tracks when recording?

no, it wasn't a video, it was a screenshot of a translation from one of her interviews i believe

maybe it wasn't the same interview, i can't find it right now but i did read it

there's always a possibility that it's been deleted because it was a mistranslation rip

i've never come across the interview you mention. Closest I can think of is either that clip about vocal guides, or the press release back when they debuted where they talk about natural voices vs adhering to the "standard singing style" or whatever

But never have I read about NewJeans not practicing their vocals or not getting any training, nor any backlash about it. So if you find it, I'd love to see where your claim comes from

and you're right, it could have been a mistranslation that got deleted

  • she sounds good.

"blame the company and Disney" for what, giving her an opportunity? people act like she'll be hated forever for this essentially perfectly fine rendition of Part of Your World in the Korean dub. Like how many people truly give a shit, aside from people who already dislike her/NJ.

plus the character's a mermaid, handwave the accent with that. The crab's Jamaican, the seagull's from Queens, her dad's Spanish, Ariel can surely sound ever so slightly Australian.

I think most other groups at HYBE have so-so vocalist and hence people automatically assume NJ have poor vocals too. But MHJ seems to come from SM school of thought where her songs are indeed vocally focused already.

Idk what makes people think NJ aren’t vocally focused when all their songs so far have focus on it.

In this particular case I think the only drawback would be the pronunciation I can hear her accent without even being a native speaker but not the actual singing.

  • Was good for a Disney song.

As another poster posted, how can anything be off in a studio song. You could sing a whole song off-key and they will correct it.

Disney will most likely cast her in something really big in the next 1-2 years.
