I'm genuinely confused. Kpop stans do know it doesn't mean "first" to do something right? It literally means to take an already existing trend, either from past ideas or current inspiration, and having it trend with many people doing it right after you. That's it. No other meaning necessary.
Seeing heated discussions about this is very odd.

A lot of K-pop stans believe some things never existed before their favorites existed. It's baffling.
With not just trendsetting, but creativity in general... Creativity has always involved being inspired from, like you said, previous or current works and then building off it. It's collaborative. With K-pop topics, things always have to unnecessarily competitive and angsty.

Everything is derived from everything that came before it.
When an "artist" or "musician" is allegedly creating something, all they are doing is taking all the shit that has already made an impression on them, whether it's art, literature, music, and then repackaging it in a slightly different way. That's literally all it is.
a trend is an inclination to do something more than other thing.
when a lot o people start doing the same thing is a trend.
it doesn´t matter if someone did it first, but if someone popular replicate that and THEN is when a trend start, that person is a Trend setter.
You can say a fashion designer made origianl design and no one bought it, but then a popular artist, actor, public person use it, and people take that design and make it a trend. THAT PERSON IS THE TRENDSETTER, NOT THE DESIGNER.
so it doesn´t matter WHO CREATED, but who made it a trend. But in fact that person is not the creator, is not the innovator. And he/she didn´t created sh*t.
