Age became a huge game changer even within a generation. How far are kpop companies are willing to go to win in their sick country?

  • Will we see idols age with single digit number soon?

  • considering 5th gen is starting and there's already 09 liners debuting (wild), soon it's going to be normal to see 12 year olds debuting or 11 year olds. i'm not gonna be shocked at all because this is something re-occurring in the industry and it's getting tiring.

  • I can't see debuting at 11 or 12 becoming a regular thing.

Not unless they are the maknae and everyone else in the group is 14+.

Mostly because the main demographic for KPOP ranges from teens to mid 20s+.

15 and 17 year olds, most of the typical ones are probably not going to be stanning 11 or 12 years old. They don't relate to them, and they also are not going to want to emulate a 11 or 12 year old. The whole point of being an "idol" is being the ideal representation of what people want to be, and teenagers and people in their 20s are the prime group to target for things like that.

A group made of 11 or 12 year olds would only appeal to tweens while teenagers can appeal to a broader range. Also, having such young members in a group limits a lot of things such as where and what they can perform.

I think New Jeans and IVE has the ideal age range currently of what most companies who plan to target teenagers and young adults would want.

Unless the main demo of KPOP changes, I don't see the age range for groups getting much younger than they already are.

people getting all mad on KPop doing this cause a Hybe group has a 13 year old member while other KPop-agencies allready have idols who debut at 7 years old

I mean Hi Cutie was 12 years on average at debut, 4CARAT was 7 years old on average, there was a boygroup with under 13 years olds some years ago called Little Sonyeongdan and JYP himself used to debut their Chinese group when the youngest was 11

  • Britney

    Selena Gomez

    Christina Aguilera

    Miley Sirus

    Justin Bieber

    Justin Timberlake

    Michael Jackson

    The Jonas Brothers

who old were each when they started their music career?

Even the Beatles ...George Harrison was working on Germany when he was a minor...you think this is only in Korea?

  • +100

I'm pretty sure Britney was only 16 when she debuted with a song literally called HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME. The song wouldnt even be allowed these days lol it would be cancelled in a microsecond.

  • YouTube parents who exploit their children from infancy are the worst. I read an article recently from such a child now that she is a teen and she hated it. She is rightly upset and resent her parents for doing it and using the excuse that it’s for their livelihood etc.

I agree that many children in the entertainment sector needs to have a great parent/guardian to oversee their safety, education, and career if that it what they truly want. But from what I have seen, especially of the bad cases, it’s more exploitation.

That, said there are successful child actor/singers who have made it into adulthood well and it is thanks to good guardians and parents.

  • maybe that's why she won. Tell me if you remember any other soloist other than Boa from her generation.

    from her gen..

    Park Ji-Yoon
    Lee Hyori
    Kang Mi Young

    but not sure if
Kang Mi Young if already a soloist back on 1st gen

    and for me
those other soloist have better song discography than BoA
BoA have the big 3 backer advantage and 2000s popularity Japan

    also back to topic
maybe Korean public like upbeat and cheerful song?
and it suitable to sing it by a younger idol not a 20s something idol acting like a teenager?
