Changed the title of the thread from “So the Korean President wanted Jin to accompany him to USm” to “So the Korean President wanted Jin to accompany him to US”.
  • it must be hard for jin to diplomatically refuse him

He cannot refuse anymore since it would be an order. As he is a soldier he has to obey his superior's orders and the President is the Commander in Chief in most countries.

  • but they must be having different rules for enlisted soldiers and actual military people otherwise it is like a human rights violation

No, rules are same for all soldiers regarding orders having to be followed. Military will not be able to function otherwise if there isn't strict adherence to orders.

I mean even at a normal workplace chain of command exists for this reason.

That enlistment dodging fucker knew he would get so much hate from the fans. He already got a taste of it and probably doesn’t want more.

  • I feel that that president does not know how to read the situation nor does he know how to use soft power.

While BTS and its members are indeed prestigious for South Korea, The seat of president isn't inherently prestigious right now. To force an entity with higher prestige to go along with an entity with lower or unsolidified prestige can cause backlash domestically and, if the higher prestige entity is known outside the country, internationally.

A better way to think about it is this: You have an average king, nothing noteworthy. That said average king has forced, with some effort, the war hero to be his bodyguard. That's alright.

But the war hero is loved by the people (in some cases a little too much) and the king is sitting on a government that is big; it stands to reason people may have a bone to pick with the government because it is the government i.e. people are wary of the government.

The figurehead of some slightly shady and immensely powerful entity has forced the person loved by the masses to do some random minor work. Further the figurehead aims to gain some of the prestige from the hero by just rubbing shoulders, that same prestige that was earned through years of hard work and achievements by the hero.

While association is good, needless association can blow up in your face.

Not just Armys, K gp would have outraged too

  • I agree, this is why he cancelled cause the outrage from Korean gp would have been massive.

  • Jin is doing so spectacular in the military after SK. Government screwing them over with that bullshit exemption/ maybe/no exemption dance they did for years

Take your Expo bid and shove it up your ass

  • this is so hard to digest, what happens if the prez's opponent party members are serving in the military, can he order them to do anything =O

I think if you are already in the gov't at a high enough level to be consequential in party politics, I think you'd be exempt from service right

imagine like a DA/prosecutor getting conscripted, choosing civil service and then essentially being temp transferred to a lower job?

Edit: age of conscription is actually pretty early for most like at early 20s. so most of the party politics happen after that.

  • It is not a wise move since if he accompanied Yoon his service, and that of the members, would have been somewhat reduced, and it would have quieted down a lot of K-O-R-E-A-N incels and rabid ultraconservatives.

In the unlikely event of a DA/prosecutor being conscripted, he gets to serve in the military tribunal as a judge or prosecutor for soldiers who commit crimes

  • Most of i-fans do not seem to understand how the K-O-R-E-A-N society works. It is very cliqueish and there is the notion of 'shared responsibility', inherited during the long period of military rule there, that if a member does wrong everyone else in that group shares the consequences.

Seokjin refusing the Prez's offer will not be seen as a good thing by the military brass, some of them were hell-bent to drag them into the barracks to begin with.

That is why I had said many times that BTS should have abandoned K-O-R-E-A to begin with, since K-O-R-E-A is a big drag for all KPop acts.

  • Interesting. If the president think he had to reserve to his military order to ask a bts member for diplomacy agenda, does it mean the blue house/ government lost their connection to bighit or bts after that world expo and military conscription law chaos? Is that why bts always in “could have would have” publication?

  • but they must be having different rules for enlisted soldiers and actual military people otherwise it is like a human rights violation

It wouldn't be if you are serving in the military you are subject to the command of the mmilitary, and your direct superior is the president. If the president gave him a legal order he would have to carry it out regardless of what it was, failing to do so would be dereliction of duty. This is true in ANY country the commander and chief is always your president, prime minister, emperor, queen or king

  • Not so since the military brass will now find an excuse to harass the members

🤡🤡 They won't lol. What would have happened had the event not been cancelled, Jin would have went without hesitation. Don't know what crack fans have smoked but a soldier is a soldier period, if you are given orders by the your superior officer your direct Co or in this case the commander and chief himself or herself YOU FALL IN LINE! There's no questioning orders unless its a illegal unlawful order like ordering him to arrest an innocent person etc. What would have happened afterwards is him receiving alot of commendations and medals for his service and then his duty would have ended next year and life would have went on as usual

Probably after Moon left, period. Not that he did a damn thing for them.

I can't see leftist BTS wanting to be affiliated with the Korean equivalent of MAGA.

BH also left Mayor of Busan in the dark regarding the enlistment plan so he was surprised when the news broke out. He made a proposal for their alternative service but BTS already made a decision.
