Reason why Twice doesn't perform *cute concept* anymore (even their past songs)

  • This might be the reason why many groups "graduate" from cute concept

  • That makes me kinda laugh to be honest to see this

Because in the past when people were saying Twice should do more mature song because they must be embarass etc...

ONCE used to always come here saying stop with your fake concern, they love what they are performing or they wouldn't be so happy on stage, they wouldn't do it if they didn't like it etc ....

And now you can see that they are literally embarass by half of their career and can't even enjoy to re-watch their old performance because of how ashame they are of what they used to do

  • It's really serious what she says. Not in the sense that she shouldn't say it, but in the sense that it's concerning, it shows what I've always thought of a lot of girl groups that don't have a say in their songs and which are just choices imposed on groups of young girls who are recruited above all for their visual.

In the end they realize that the only legacy they leave are songs they are not even proud of. It's not the first time we see idols say that.

or that it's the fact that they were young girls then

now they are young women which matured mentally fast due to the fact that they've started working life early

ps: I think any of us if we would see our own on video from 7-10 years ago we would probably cringe hard and be ashamed like 'wtf I'm doing here noooo'

  • That's what i'm saying. They realize that they have aged (they're still young) and they have no artistic legacy, they have money but nothing to be proud as artist. This is the reality for many idol groups.

She's not the first to talk about it, but I find it brave of her to talk about it.

cute song still can be a good one

the songs which they should be proud about are Fancy, Feel Special, Cry for Me, I can't stop me etc.

  • Well interesting cause a lot of idols were probably inspired by Twice and if anyone should be proud about cute concepts its them.

  • Yea I think people are exaggerating and misinterpreting this to be something it's not.

Jihyo sounds like interviews I've heard with Taeyeon about their earlier cute songs. It wasn't Taeyeon's thing and she wanted to do other stuff. She ultimately did. Jihyo seems to be of similar feel. As she got older she doesn't want to do the older really cute stuff anymore as an adult. And cringes somewhat at the idea of her doing it again now as an older adult. That's fine. TWICE has largely moved to their new library in any case.

But I think people are extrapolating in misguided fashion to state that this is somehow indicative that TWICE as a whole is "ashamed" of their entire early career. Facts not in evidence. If you asked Jihyo straight up if she was ashamed of her early TWICE career I don't think that would be the answer you get. She's cringing at a few of their songs as they weren't her thing, seems especially some of the more overt aegyo mannerisms that were a part of some of those that she did. Nothing more nothing less.

And this is just Jihyo's feeling in any case. Not the whole group. Not in any sense some mass indictment of the whole group nor their career.

And to speak to a larger point. This whole video and the discussion around it is framed from the common perspective from some in kpop that want to delegitimize "cute" or youthful songs and feeling.

Is it everyone's thing? Is every idol going to love it? No. Many will yearn to do other things and will as they grow. Many fans don't like that stuff and find it childish.

But that doesn't change the legitimacy and real meaning of cuter or more youthful fare. It's a style and emotion that resonates with many and holds real emotional power and real connection.

Central to TWICE's legacy was their ability to connect in that soft form to a wide range of fans and the public. It holds worth even if some do not understand it's value or don't like it.

It will forever be a essential part of TWICE's legacy and I don't think as a whole TWICE is ashamed of that.

    They shouldn't be.

It was moving to so many.
