IVE’s lip-syncing controversy has finally exploded into TV news

“Shocking” IVE’s lip-syncing controversy has finally exploded into TV news – Pannkpop
I can't tell if this was because it was Wonyoung, they were sitting down, or both.
Either way for this to go national is wild.
Is Korea new to kpop

I kind of think the criticism is deserved but obviously not to this extent. People are taking it too far because they're absolutely jealous of wonyoung and are being personal. this girl is the most hated and loved person in Korea. I feel horrible for her because you can see how this gets to her at times. she's just a kid
But starship needs to apologize for setting them up so bad. How you gonna use the exact same audio of a cover posted on youtube and not expect people to have a meltdown 😭 i mean i get that idols lipsync while performing because they do have intense choreos. i can't climb up a flight of stairs without fighting for my breath lol. but they were sitting still here... what is the point of all those years of training when you can't sing into a mic while sitting down?? this should be the basic requirement of an idol.

This is exactly the prob lol. Stans are failing to recognise. If this were my faves I would also not disagree with the criticism. There’s no dancing involved and in produce48 it has always portrayed how impt singing live vocals are.
If u are thinking it’s merely abt my faves u are missing the prob. Idc abt IVE or any bcos it’s not my faves it’s getting old. Did I get embarrassed with their encore? I did.
But the prob in this case is a ballad sitting down and lip syncing to a cover they did before. Tell that to their management since k-pop is always portrayed to be perfect and as well in pd48 how they need to have ability to sing and dance.

While my following answers are indeed not starship's official word I've seen some people pointing out that:
1. It's not the only performance they had that day, so starship decided to prerecord it and choosing the quickest and easiest method, which is using the same sound they already have done.
2. They maybe also afraid for Wonyoung and leeseo do a mistake while performing live.
And so starship take the safest way, lip syncing.
3. Actually many have pointed this out, why did starship didn't choose
Well maybe starship thinks that, for a year end show, they should garner big attention by using wonyoung (which they ironically did).
If they aim for giving at least a safer performer, they should send Liz or Yujin or even Rei (which were praised by some people for having a nice tone and stable vocal).
Heck, Liz even had her own full cover of IU's song
But alas they choose Wonyoung-Leeseo.
And as to why they choose IU's song?
Well, strawberry moon is the one and only full cover that had done by wy-ls 
And lip syncing is indeed the quickest and easiest method because of (maybe) time constraint.
But, they are called starshit for a reason so...
