I dont understand how kpop fans categorize a song as sounding like a bside or sounding like title track

the way i see it is that title tracks usually kinda have to stick to a formula that they think would get the most attention from the gp where as a b-side is just free to be whatever it wants to be. when people say a title track sounds like a b-side they probably just mean that the producers had complete creative control and no real pressure to hit quotas which means more focus on musicality than the over-the-top extravaganza-- sometimes to a fault, that is the typical kpop title track

its the funniest thing, people really think Title Track is its own genre these days

this is just how kpop stans treat music though. i can understand the concept of not wanting to check out an artist's album because title track is already not what you like. but in the grand scheme of things, "b-sides" are meant to be listened to too. its only kpop stans that listen to a b-side once and go back to mass streaming the title track without even putting the whole album on shuffle.

i don't think theres anything wrong with picking and choosing songs you like from an album, but this whole newjeans discussion has made me realize that many kpop stans really don't treat b-sides in general like regular songs that you can listen to and enjoy. like how is saying ditto and omg sound like bsides even an insult lol.

usually when i say smth sounds like a b-side i mean it's fine but it's boring for a title track. or sometimes that it sounds like a filler b side, not very good but used to fill an album

Usually title tracks have the most effort put into them, not just with promo obviously, including an expensive video, but also the song itself. B sides are often simpler musically, some even lack a proper bridge, they're just verse chorus verse chorus end. For example, Tally couldve easily been the best song on The Album and a SOTY contender but the song structure was too basic, there was literally no catchy bridge or drop or anything that made it stand out, plus the second verse rap was shortchanged it shouldve been double the length. Meanwhile Pink Venom got a great bridge and full on outro (which i didnt like i hate excessive ratatatas or gratatatas or ddu ddu ddus or whatever).

the TT should just be what the artist feels like promoting. if it's the quietest song on the album but is the one that the artist wants the GP to hear, so be it. No reason it can't get elaborate promo, performance and MV. But kpop stans are conditioned to expect it to be the loudest, zaniest track on the album and it must be so constricting.
