Are scientists among the most prosecuted group of people in human history?

  • Are scientists among the most prosecuted group of people in human history?

If their findings were against traditions, they were burned alive

If their findings were against religions, they were burned alive

People forget that it wasnt long ago that governments tried to execute likes of Galileo and Kepler for just asserting that maybe its not the sun going around the earth.

Even now people like to discredit scientific findings by calling it political and punish them for having valid logical conclusions

  • Kind of, even these days, doing science sometimes can be deemed as offensive apparently.

If their findings were against narratives, they got canceled.

    which is so weird

all of science is based on one fundamental idea that we must change our conclusions in light of new data and observations

    science cannot follow a narrative

  • Marie currie died from what she did

She invented the reason why people started wars with guns and bombs

She invented the reason why nuclear power plants exists

And at the end she got cancer from it and died

    A.C.E | ATEEZ | DRIPPIN| MCND | NU'EST | ONF | SF9 | Stray Kids | TFN

  • Well you can cherry-pick data that benefit you the most just like people do in kpop "melon charting is the most important metric" or "no album sales is the thing". If you wanna see the truth you may wanna see things in multiple different aspects.

  • We saw what happened with covid how a significant amount of populations discredit scientific knowledge even if it's right there on full display for everyone to see like denying covid is real or not following basic health like wearing a mask.

  • In western societies, yes..especially the innovative ones. In the future, people will see that those more akin to "scientists" could help create more stability and lasting progress than politicians.

  • charles darwin prolly turning in his grave faster than a race car engine for how many people misused his stuff lol.

Gonna be honest though there are two people in the world:

People who draw conclusions from data

    and

People who collect data to support conclusions.

Its not like scientists are immune to it either. Einstein was declared feeble minded for his relativity stuff until they proved it using a gravitational lensing event that supported his predictions and disproved Newtonian predictions.

Its also been scientifically proven that when confronted with ideas contrary to our own or when we're directly declared the human body has a defense reflex that makes the body react as if had just been struck with a physical attack. Yes, physical and intellectual attacks have the same response. Those who cannot suppress that tend to immediately, or even in a delayed manner, mount a defense defending their belief, not stopping to think if their belief was flawed from the start.

Those who have come around to critically thinking of the situation either after mounting a defense or not will truly learn whether or not their belief is flawed. Those who haven't may never know.

  • The first case are logical theorist

the second case are critical theorist

Scientists have gone through hoops trying to get people to distinguish both.

at the end of the day, the right conclusion is supported by more data making it more probable.

No conclusion is 100 percent but the more data we gather that supports it, the more probable it becomes

    Not just western societies

Even Asian cultures have gone through phases were they prosecuted scientists

Yeah covid really showed how much people really think of scientists

It's crap when people mix it with politics

My country's politicians admitted that they knew banning travel will limit our exposure to covid but they didn't follow through bc they didn't want to look racist.

Same with mask mandates, they delayed it bc of how it will look not bc it won't work.

  • Err no

While there have been places and periods where scientists/schoolars have been persecuted for what they did/said, we are where we are today because of them, scientists in that sense rule the world and have so done for the last millenia. And more often than not, science was driven forward by priests/religous clergymen, who in most societies and times were part of the elite.

Europeans despite some backwards thinking with christian beliefs and systems, conquered the world with the help of science. Science have been the driving force for most of the major turning points in human history, both good and bad.

You have that versus entire groups of people that just happened to be born with a certain skin color, sexuality or genes they could do nothing about, that have been persecuted because of it for centuries and still are to this day. Its not comparable at all.

  • way better now than then. these days, they just boot you off social media and try to get you fired or lose your license
