If true I wonder
a) if a "new" pokemon anime will be produced to replace it.
b) if the above isn't true, I wonder how that would impact the quality of the games because the main reason gf has to cut a lot of corners is due to the anime and merch. They need to produce and sell things constantly.
the merch itself is still a huge moneymaker so I don't think axing the anime will help this problem I'd imagine.

Nah. They will inevitably be more. Pokemon is one of the biggest media franchises on the world, they won't give up a can cow like that.
I mean the latest game runs and looks like dogshit even compared to previous releases but still did 10m in only 3 days becoming Nintendo's fastest ever selling game.

oh considering the wording. It sounds like they are retiring ash and pikachu and not necessarily the pokemon anime as a whole. The next season may star a new main character.
It will be interesting to see a pokemon other than pikachu star. Given pikachu is the face of the pokemon company at this point thanks largely due to the anime.

THE biggest. And I suspect a big reason they're the biggest is because of the diversity in their revenue streams. Some of the other largest franchises depend almost exclusively on manga or merchandise, so they could drop spots quickly if the creator went off the rails.
It's almost kind of funny how little video games impact their overall revenue stream despite the crazy sales, so it's kind of no wonder why The Pokemon Company doesn't invest more in that direction. (Pity because New Pokemon Snap was delightful, but the crazy variability in quality means I don't preorder Pokemon games anymore.)

She is a QT. I like the hair.
This reminds me that I hope we get another Detective Pikachu. The first one was a delight.

The game may look ugly but the story and gameplay are solid. It’s so fun, and the patch resolves most of the glitches

I guess he ended up being the "very best"
