SO.. I was just messing with Google Youtube Trends comparing the current popularity of 4th gen Groups and used Twice as an outlier to get some perspective. I compared Ive, G-Idle, Le sserafim, New jeans to TWICE because they (as groups) were topping the genie/melon charts this week.
As you can see, Twice is fairly more popular , but we're comparing rookie 4th gen groups to a hugely popular established group so this didn't surprise me. Even w/o comebacks, Twice is searched more than most of these groups. So I wanted to see what this meant globally. And again, using Twice as the benchmark, i compared TWice with other "global" stars- both from Kpop and Western. Compared Seventeen, Billie Eillish, Taylor, and SkZ with TWICE.
As you can see, it's fairly competitive. Twice's line are similar to other "global" stars search lines. but this was only 1 year. what would it look like the past 5 years?
Again, Fairly competitive. You can even argue that Twice's peaks are better than most during the last 5 years. I was thoroughly impressed with Twice's GLOBAL popularity. Which lead me to compare Twice .. with BTS and BlackPink , Billie stayed cus her peak was highest in this graph, and added Drake.
and my JAW DROPPED. You can barely see others besides Blackpink .. but there's NO doubt BTS is way ahead. So i wondered how BTS compared with non- music related searches... like.. the most popular youtube channels.
And again, it wasnt even close. so what else? how about the pandemic that was on everyone's mind for the last 2 yrs?
As you can see, Covid garnered a huge interest for a few months, but soon after, BTS dominated. What else could i compare BTS with? I decided to go with NEWS, keep covid, general recipes, and "HOW" - knowing youtube's most searched topic was "how to" videos.
And as you can see. BTS holds their own with NEWS and RECIPES - cant compare with "how". but nothing really can really. BTS was searched just a lil bit less than recipes and... the news.. on youtube.... for the past 5 years.
So let's be clear.
BTS is quite possibly once in a generation.. or once in a life musical PHENOMENON. TWICE, TAYLOR, DRAKE, BP are all VERY POPULAR . There's NO denying that -You saw it on the graph.. but they can't compare with BTS global popularity. THERE WILL NOT BE ANOTHER BTS when they enlist. NOBODY is gonna be as popular as BTS - at least not in this generation. People NEED TO understand how much of a phenomenon BTS is. This kinda thing doesnt happen every 10 or 20 yrs or so. People were searching for BTS as much as they searched for the news. THERE WILL NOT BE A "NEXT BTS" OR "ANOTHER" BTS.
