can KARA hit it big with their reunion comeback like SNSD
-
-
Doubt it. Kara was quite hated after their water bottle "scandal" and members like Hara and Gyuri especially so. Even their reboot as 4 didn't help tide over things, they never got back to their popularity before the scandal.
Unless public had a huge change of heart in those years I don't think Kara will be warmly welcomed as SNSD unless they have a mega hit song that gets everybody talking.

There's a show called Radio Star where they used to be known for grilling guests but have mellowed in last few years.
Hara and Jiyoung were on the show and one of the big topics was about idol relations and the hosts including Kyuhyun of Super Junior constantly made comments about Hara essentially playing the field a lot (there were various rumors of her dating a new idol every few months). Naturally this hurt Hara and Jiyoung who both started crying. Knetz criticised them for crying like babies despite the messed up implications of what the hosts were saying.
They continued going in hard because they saw they were getting a reaction. It got to the point Hara got pissed of and SLID - not threw - a water bottle toward Kyuhyun to make him shut up. The hosts the overreacted as usual about it saying Hara of violent and Kyuhyun in particular said (though it was closer to threaten) he knew stuff about them that would cause even bigger controversies.

We have provided more information on this in our privacy policy. After the episode knetz turned on Kara saying they were unprofessional, crybabies and very rude. Hara “throwing” the water bottle became big stain against her character and she was deemed a delinquent. The public turned on them. Before the episode Kara were doing well on charts and doing extremely well in Japan. Arguably they were the 2nd biggest gg after SNSD at that point in time but after they took a huge nose dive and were basically a second T-ara situation.
Kara unfortunately never recovered. Their popularity feel off a cliff and members were hated especially Hara got the brunt of hate which many feel was reason that drove her to suicide a few years later along with other significant factors.
Honestly it's pretty fucked because the hosts and knetz made a huge deal over rumors and relatively minor action and the public went along with it. It was particularly nasty how Kyuhyun an idol himself who goes through hundreds of rumours and hate too and supposedly friends with them was more than happy to get shots in and worsen the entire situation all for a few laughs.

It depends on how many of their older fans still listento kpop. I think many of their fans left when they disbanded. SNSD never disbanded so they still have fans clinging on. Also Kara didn’t have a strong marketing dept at DSP…not being part of the big 3 does hurt in more ways
Gyuri looks so different now…unlike anything before. I couldn’t even recognize her face .

Those guys deserved a bottle in the face. Hara should've aimed for their balls. Then again it doesn’t surprise me, most of SJ are arrogant ass*

JFC, that's horrible, especially knowing what ended up happening to her. Poor Hara.

Not only has SNSD’s legacy held up better like someone above me said, but the members are more known to the public than the Kara members with their solo endeavors. Coupled with SM making SNSD a whole new reality show on broadcast, they sent them through the entire variety circuit. T-ara’s and Exid’s reunions didn’t do nearly as well as SNSD’s either.

I mean their moving poster teasers for the comeback have a ton of views, in the hundreds of thousands.

Yeah it’s pretty messed up. Goes to show how ruthless Korean media and Korean society is. Take one incident out of context, create a big fat lie to ruin their reputation despite evidence that debunks it all, and finally hate on the idols for fucking years.
Because of Hara new reputation knetz hated on her. Add how there were already ton of unsubstantiated rumours about her (she’s easy to get with, delinquent, friends with Sulli who was another public menace and well she had no out. Even after her suicide attempt knetz only had temporary sympathy and when her ex bf assaulted her she was made out to be the aggressor even though again there was evidence to the contrary (he went to her house, she had more severe injuries, she had reported him before etc).
With no one on her side we saw the outcome. It’s one of the most depressing stories I’ve seen in kpop and the industry and Korea society were complicit in her suffering.

Oh I've heard of this scandal the hosts we scums towards Hara and Jiyoung the fact that Kyuhyun who's an idol as well knows how dating scandals affect their career yet he kept going at it is so distasteful and the way knetz overblown the whole water bottle is beyond me but then it's knetz if they don't overblow things.
Scandal aside i don't think Kara comeback will be as well received as SNSD comeback after Kara disbandment the members were out of the Korean scene except for maybe Seungyeon and her buzz is now where near SNSD's but i don't think we should care this much about numbers the fact that Kara is coming back as whole group is a win in itself we should enjoy what we're giving
