Cause if it is the latter case, it is just like China claiming every asian culture being theirs. The world has grown in such a way that culture are being gatekeep instead of everyone embracing each other cultures. There is no mocking here not sure why the upset happened

I understand why black American can be upset but there are things that other human beings can develop independently too.. it’s good to remember that the world doesn’t revolve around one particular culture but a mixture. And others hurt and suffer too. And while it’s good to educate people your history, please be educated with other people’s history too. That way we can have a give and take relationship. In Malaysia we say “sangka baik” - always assume the best intentions and don’t assume the worst.
Context matters here. There is a long history of co-opting Black culture, usually for profit, without giving creators their credit AND often renaming it or acting like it’s someone new and cutting edge because someone who is not Black is doing it. As always, it’s not just about this specific hairstyle or this specific incident but rather the ongoing themes here.
I certainly don’t expect Wonyoung to necessarily know this stuff, but I do get why Black people are like “oh come on, not again.”
What I don’t get is why people get more pressed about people complaining about this type of thing than they do about people losing their shit because they don’t like someone’s makeup, don’t have enough lines in a song or don’t like the latest promo.
So its just styling the baby hair in the front thats causing a controversy? But that is so common
