What to do when someone keeps following around?

  • Two things you can do. Approach and talk with them to see if there is something that you can do/information you can provide to help them be more comfortable "doing their own thing"...or taze them.

Kidding. Talk to the intern and tell him it's unnecessary?

I'm looking for ways to talk to them politely but the only thing that's holding me back is - these month long rotations are there opportunity to decide which field they gonna choose later. I'm worried about scaring them off.

I'll wait for a day or two but if this continues I'm going to talk because it's making me kinda uncomfortable

Maybe if you turn around and ask them, "Oh, did you need help? Do you have a question?" continuously they'll take the hint?

  • ^what ves said above

or ask a senior person (admin???) if there is any chance that the intern is suppose to be following you around? like shadowing you but somehow there was a miscommunication or something????

i don't have to go that far I'll just ask him to keep his distance. but as you know these interns are praised for sucking up to residents lol. there is an internal assessment for them which is filled by the senior authorities and they notice like oh this one did so much work. it's weird lol

well newbies are suppose to suck up to the established workers...it's the name in most industries...

haven't we all tried to suck up to the bosses at one point or another? lol

  • Here's a different perspective.

Sometimes when you are very good at what you do, you are going to attract attention/eyeballs. Somebody kept showing up in my peripherals across some days. Eventually, this person confessed in a conversation with another person (I was the 3rd party) about being told I was one of the best and I didn't even have to bust out the taze..I mean interrogate..I mean talk to him about it.
