I just started to watch Girls Planet 999

  • oh boy

prepare for a rollercoaster and broken heart

now you will finally realize how much MNet and Knetz messed up line up lol

lol yeah I'm gonna see for myself.

There's one thing I understood while rewatching MTG, it's how the k-audience, when given the choice, almost always go for the cute and lovely girl. In MTG there were a few contestants who were seen as all-rounders, yet none got into the final group. And I think it's because they had too much of a strong image. They got paid dust in terms of online voting while Kim Yooyeon who sucked at everything maintained a top ranking throughout the whole show.

I already know that a lot of the Chinese contestants have a strong/fierce image so I'm not really surprised they didn't make it to the very end, however good they were.

Well three Chinese girls were evil edited, I won't spoil anything but well you know Kep1er line up.

Another thing is inconsistency of judges and at least from what it was filmed it looked like Sunmi had most to say which freakin sucks, because after all Tiffany is from Girls Generation so she should be the one with a 'major' vote

  • I can't believe how Mnet dragged every ranking announcement for hours. I understand that it's dramatic and suspenseful, but come on, it didn't need to be THAT long. It feels like a giant waste of time.

Oh boy, be ready for endless ranking announcements lol, I honestly really enjoyed the show, but some episodes were all about rankings, which when you know the results it's not very thrilling. The evil and dramatic editing is the Mnet special so that's to be expected.

  • Wait a minute. So you tell me Xiaoting went from being #1 three times in a row to #9 in the final ranking? How does that make sense? She was the most stable in the ranking throughout the show, #3 being her worst ranking before the finale.

I was just watching the last episode and was fully expecting Xiaoting and Chaehyun to be the top 2 contestants, with Bahiyyih at #9 considering she never was top 9 before. But Bahiyyih is #2? That's wild.

No wonder fans called BS on Mnet again.

That's because the voting was divided through nationality all of the program until the last voting, which was just a 1-pick vote, and obviously Bahiyyih had a lot of fans by then.

Also a thing Mnet did is making the korean vote value 50% of the total, which made the korean votes value A LOT more (like 7/8 international votes = 1 korean vote), so that damaged the chinese and japanese trainees on the 1-pick voting. In fact, Mnet dropped some days before the final how the voting was going and 8/9 members were korean, which made people panic-vote trainees like Xiaoting or Hikaru which people thought were safe at first. I think Mnet realized a little too late that they gave way too much power to the korean vote.

I think it was a combination of 1) k-voters going all out only voting for k-group members. (there were only 2 kgroup members in the rankings before the finale) 2) thinking she was a shoe in (like myself, and I voted for Chaehyun worried she wouldn't make it) 3) some vote splitting with Yurina as they wanted both to debut (me as well) If you saw the interim ranking prior to the finale, 1-8 or 1-9 were all kgroup members, Xiaoting was actually 18th. The fact that she made it all the way back to the top 9 in a few days showed how well liked she is.

last ep you could only vote for 1 trainee. a lot of xiaotings votes were from knetz who disliked every other Chinese trainee

also, bahiyyih would’ve ranked #1 if the international votes were counted the same as the other votes

Yeah I was just reading about that. It's too misleading to change the rules like that at the last stage of the competition though. It seems clear they wanted to ensure a good number of Korean members in the group. And to an extent, I can understand. I thought it was weird when only two contestants of the K group were part of the Top 9.

But going from a 2/7 ratio to 6 k-group girls grabbing the top 6 spots out of the blue is too much of an extreme.

To be clear, I'm not mad that "only" three foreigners made it to Kep1er. When it comes to C-group girls, I never thought that Fu Yaning or Cai Bing did really fit. These girls have a whole different vibe and energy and I think they should debut in a group that is tailor made for them and not in a chaotic selection of members with no clear concept in mind.

But the way Xiaoting almost got screwed out of the group entirely for no other reason but a questionable voting process, that is a bit infuriating. And I'm not even a fan of hers.

As for Bahiyyih, I'm not mad she got into the group. I don't think she was a formidable contestant but she was not unskilled either. She shouldn't have ranked #2 though.

  • Oh, and I think mnet knew what they were doing there. Certainly was a set up to ensure there were a max 1 Cgroup member (Xiaoting) and 1-2 Jgroup member (Hikaru + Mashiro/Yurina). They clearly did not want Bahiyyih in as she barely got any air time.

Yes, it's something that quite surprised me; the fact that Bahiyyih didn't get any favors from Mnet editing. She was not evil edited either; she was just there like many other contestants. Which makes her sudden surge of popularity at the last minute even more puzzling.

  • Yeah, as you said I understand Mnet wanting the group to be mainly koreans, but I think they miscalculated how much they were favoring them with that 1 pick voting, the way that Xiaoting almost didn't make it proves that. On the show I wanted Suyeon to make it but now I couldn't be happier she's with Billlie. A lot of the fans of the japanese and specially chinese members were very mad with the final 9 though which is understandable.

lol Suyeon is in Billlie? I didn't even know that! ^^

    Good for her, she's good.

I don't really who I would have wanted in the group if I had watched GP999 before Kep1er's debut. For sure Dayeon would have a been a top pick of mine. I saw earlier today she was not very popular outside of Korea and she might have not make it if Korean votes didn't weigh in so heavily, which makes me a bit sad.

Overall I'm satisfied with the final lineup. I didn't see a contestant about whom I thought "damn she really should have been chosen over X or Y".

I think the same thing for Yeseo. If the Korean votes weren't weighted more, I don't know if she would have made the group.

And she was my #1 pick.

I left my heart in LA again. Please continue taking good care of it.
