Just to clear up once again, I’ve posted this in several threads where people underestimate the importance of streaming in the US (mainly spotify streams).
1200-1500 streams in Spotify of an album equals to 1 digital album sold (same price as average physical album around $12-15) since companies get paid accordingly from those streams.
Not sure if the 300k mentioned in the OP is just physical copies or including equivalent digital albums.

I have always wondered this, but does YT Music count as streams as well? Not the M/V but the music side of the platform.

Congrats Bangtan!
'Not surprised but it seems UMG underestimated the album sales...

300k equivalent album units are including physicals as well as digital sales and streams.

It used to be only physical sales and digital sales till around 2014 if I remember correctly.
Since 2015 they started including audio streams. Then since 2020 video streams are also included for Billboard 200.

Yes.
Streaming in the US makes artists more money generally now than physical sales.
Example in 2021…
Adele sold 1.4 million physical/digital copies and only around 500k equivalent stream units. While Morgan Wallen sold around 300k physical/digital copies but had over 2.9milliom equivalent units.
Rough estimate means Adele had a music sales revenue around $28mil while Morgan Wallen had $48mil sales revenue even though Adele sold more physical/digitals.
