Is 4th gen still about visuals?

  • Is popularity/success still dependent on visuals in 4th gen? Or has talent become the main requirement for success?

  • Both but I would say visuals are still very important.

Sullyoon, wonyoung, karina and kazuha are the most popular members of their groups.

We can see people still priorities visuals (wonyoung, sullyoon and karina) not that these idols aren't talented, it's far from that. But talent still can bring you to the top (kazuha, she's very pretty tho).

  • I don't know. Even though I think my faves are handsome men, I feel like they are more recognized for their talent than their visuals.

  • Still visuals. That's why WY and Karina are the most popular even though they aren't close to the top in talent.

  • All the top 4th gen groups are still full of visuals and not any more talented than 3rd gen... nothings changed...

  • I forgot to mention Sakura who is not very talented but has tons of fans.

  • Visuals have been and always will be the most important in any Kpop group, especially girl groups. The only way that the importance of visuals can be matched or surpassed is if you deliver something very new and different (2NE1, Hyuna, Hwasa), or you are an incredibly talented member but above average in the group visually anyway.

Go through a who's who of the top groups and individual idols from older groups and upcoming stars - the biggest are almost always part of the visual lines and only a rare few are considered amongst the most talented in their groups.

SNSD - Yoona, Taeyeon, Wonder Girls - Sohee, T-ara - Jiyeon, Kara - Hara, Fx - Krystal, AOA - Seolhyun, MissA - Suzy, Apink - Naeun, Twice - Sana, Momo, Tzuyu, BP - all, RV - Irene, Joy, OMG - Arin, Aespa - Karina, Winter, Ive - Wonyoung, Itzy - Yuna, Ryujin, LSF - Kazuha

  • If talent was more important than visuals it would be a VERY difference landscape.

Visuals is majorly trumping talent in popularity. All the recently debuted GG's have focused far more heavily on Visuals then talent. And the songs reflect that too - hardly any vocal difficulty, no live singing, easy to non-existent raps; everything is tailor made for the new gen where visuals are everything and they can rely on studio production to not even have to sing or rap.
