YamaChan?? The OG????????
Once a MooMoo, always a MooMoo
I'm a lifetime radish and this song brought me back to life

This is my favorite Mamamoo title track since HIP. It is so damn good. Love the verses, pre chorus, chorus, dance break, bridge, climax...and those amazing Mamamoo vocals.
Set my alarm to listen as soon as the MV dropped and I'm wide awake now.

I don't know. It's pretty hard to revive something that never died.
They'll be successful queens with an incredible legacy regardless of how the song charts.

I'm not ready to bury the generation that turned me into a hardcore Kpop stan (and MMM fan for life), but we're clearly in the middle of a major generation shift in the GG space.
So when it's all said and done, how will you remember the queens of the third generation?
For me, it's the distinct, contrasting style of each group.
Especially for the original big 5 wall:
Red Velvet, MAMAMOO, Twice, BlackPink and Gfriend had VASTLY different but very distinct sounds as groups.
Generally the moment a song started for any of these groups (and to this day minus GFRIEND RIP), you knew right away which group it was without even checking.
The groups didn't chase trends. They just did their own thing and did it sublime

lol some people are talking like 3rd gen ended 5 years ago. The shift has only just started this year.
Not even 2 years ago it was common for people to wonder if the 4th gen would take the baton from 3rd gen any time soon.
The global reach of kpop extended massively over the course of 3rd gen. Just like the 3rd gen reaped the benefits of the hallyu wave started by 2nd gen.
Each generation sets the table for the generation that follows. Kpop being so global today didn't just happen overnight

No? Mamamoo and GFriend both rose in 2015 and had major hits in 2016.
They were both top groups at the same time. That's kind of why they did a joint Showtime season together. You can easily find full episodes on youtube.
GFriend didn't reach the digital peak of their first major hits again (Me Gustas Tu and Rough specfically), but they still had a very strong fandom for relative to their peers and were able to sell out concerts and lots of albums (again this is back when 100k was impressive for a GG)
Mamamoo had #1 hit songs from 2016 to 2018, and that's not counting Hwasa's success individually. They started from basically nothing and rose to top girl group status. Their digitals have cooled off lately, but they're also doing a lot of solo activities and barely promote as a group (until the end of this year maybe).
For several years, Twice, BP, RV, MMM and GF were an absolute wall, so I don't think they suffered in the slightest.
Those girl groups killed it in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

It's 2016.
Mamamoo, GFriend and Twice had their first big hit songs that year, with You're The Best, Rough and Cheer Up respectively. All three songs scoring PAKs on the digital charts. Then you had Black Pink debuting with a PAK with the release of Whistle/Boombayah in August. And Red Velvet had already established itself as a powerhouse at the time as well.
These groups were all over K-Pop and by far the hottest girl groups of that year. They dominated every metric you can think of and the competition was fierce.
2018 is a good year as well, but it does have some crossover with 4th gen.
2016 was pure 3rd generation domination.
For the ladies anyway

I'm extremely late and seeing this because I assumed it was one of those send-all site notifications. Sorry!
But my answer is that I've completely fallen for New Jeans. I love their sound, performance, obvious chemistry and overall concept as a group.
My age as a huge K-Pop stan is starting to show though, so it is unlikely I'll fall as hard as I have for Mamamoo!
Lesserafim I'm neutral on, but I do like their debut song. It's catchy. Too bad they had controversy right after they debuted.

I'm just starting to open up to the 4th Generation, and the first thing I've noticed is that there really isn't a definitive top group or exclusive club of elite groups like 3rd Generation. And as a 3rd Gen stan, I prefer that.
Let everyone at the table eat, if they come back with good music and performances!
P.S. Don't be so disrespectful to Mamamoo and GFriend. At their peaks, they were plenty competitive with the Big 3 GGs.

it is not comeback so it's not being promoted as a comeback.
Mamamoo will be fine, and the sky isn't falling.
They've had one comeback that didn't chart well this year.
They're not the digital force they used to be, but that goes for pretty much every third generation girl group. It's not just Mamamoo.
But the fandom is as strong as ever. And they still have a stellar, unique reputation in the industry.
They'll be fine.

Is this the thread that re-activates my MooMoo Pride?
I'm not here to throw dirt on GFriend's name or stir up trouble with their fans, but Mamamoo had top girl group numbers from 2016 up until 2019.
That's a strong four year run, and they had one of the longest streaks of #1 hit songs of any girl group in the third generation.
GFriend had a massive peak in 2016, but there is no debating who performed better digitally as a group or individually from 2017 on.
Mamamoo absolutely had metrics to rival any girl group you want to name (albeit no in terms of physicals obviously).
They went head to head with BlackPink in 2017, dropped Starry Night in 2018 (a top 4 GG song that year) and stood alone digitally in 2019.
Not even counting solos.
They've had two underperforming title tracks in a row. That is undeniable.
This has happened to Red Velvet too. Any of these girl groups can bounce back with a strong release.
