I don't think this is a controversial statement at all, but we'll see if I get pushback and accused of setting them up again
We're a couple weeks removed from NewJeans hitting the 1 year mark as a group, and I stand on what I said when they were only 3 months old--their completely out of nowhere debut and instant superstardom is the biggest and most successful debut I've seen since becoming a K-Pop fan more than a decade ago
But you don't have to take my word for it. If you're curious at all about the numbers (there are a lot and it's ABSURD) click the spoilers below--courtesy of @NewJeansCharts.
I decided not to include any accomplishments from their most recent album, since I did say debut, and they were still barely 6 months old when Ditto/OMG dropped, but you can throw 3 songs simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 (Super Shy, ETA, Cool With You) and 5 songs in the same calendar year if you'd like--both girl group records.
It may be hard to believe with all the stats above, but I'm not a success stan in the slightest. I got hooked on NewJeans because I simply ador ( ) their music
But even if I wasn't a fan in the slightest, I would still be talking about them in superlatives, because of how they continue to speedrun accomplishments I'm sure most of us thought required years for even the biggest groups to achieve.
This is literally the perfect representation of their careers since debut:
I've said my piece. This is probably my last NJ thread for the year, if I want to keep my MooMoo cred
ALL opinions are welcome. Even if you decide to roast me. I'd rather people call me stupid or crazy than say nothing and let my thread flop. I worked hard to find these spreadsheets
EDIT: Changed the title because I'm not volunteering as tribute to go through the laborious task of figuring out how to fairly compare first gen accomplishments to fourth gen accomplishments--at least K-Pop was global by 2nd generation and on.

I've been a happy K-Pop fan for nearly a decade.
My ultimate favs take a backseat to no group when it comes to talent or career longevity
I just always call it how I see it when it comes to girl group discussions
I've seen BP, Twice, NJ and MMM in person. Twice and MMM multiple times. I'm not just a biased, angry stan raging behind a keyboard!

I swear put any group before … vs Blackpink and we get the next hit thread…
My weeb mind can only see the current girl group hierarchy in One Piece logic.
BP and Twice are like the Yonko currently reigning over the seas, and NJ are the best of the worst generation coming up and taking over their territories to start a new era
-
Yeah. And I think they were better at those things than BlackPink.
I'm not going to turn this into a 2NE1 vs. BP discussion, but my opinion is that everything BP does 2NE1 did the same or better, and I'll always favor the one who came first. It's like comparing Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant.
I don't think 2NE1 was the most talented of their era, and I don't think BP is more talented than 2NE1. Both statements can be true.
-
Fair assessment. No lies detected.
Of the top girl groups of the third generation, you could argue BlackPink is the least talented (compared to MMM, RV, Twice and GFriend).
They aren't a super high bar to clear when it comes to the categories of singing or dancing, if you look at the group as a whole.
They've really come into their own since debut, but they'll always kind of be 2NE1 Lite to me

MooMoos are quiet but fiercely loyal. When we say we'll never let go of Mamamoo we mean it!

The outfits were on point and on theme with this being a Jamboree concert. Really heads up decision by their stylists or whoever made that call.
-
Not anything against them. They are doing really well for a Kpop act. They aren't popular in the US though.
-
Which public?
You know "public friendly" is Kpop fan lingo for doing well on local charts in Korea.
This isn't a thing in the US.
They had the best selling album on the Billboard 200 last week, beating out the soundtrack to Barbie, the biggest movie of the summer.
They have 3 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 currently. They've had 5 songs make it on the chart in the same calendar year, becoming only the fourth girl group (not just K-Pop) in history to do so.
They just performed at Lollapalooza and over 70,000 people filed in to watch their set, treating them like the headline act of the day.
Pretty sure those are all things in the US. Disputing the popularity of NewJeans in the US is so 2022, friend.
