Set Me Free - 9 million
Absolutely embarrassing for Twice.

2019 was a weird year. Twice began their transition into the flop stage of their career as far as success of their songs, and BP was headed for an even bigger peak.

And by formula I mean streaming farms and ads. With the current rules of youtube where even big fandoms like armys struggle to pull high number of views this barely debuted group with a very bad song is pulling almost 1M of views per hour, 11M in 12 hours as of right now... they are one of the strongest acts in the world in the youtube category from the start, like by their 2nd or 3rd comeback those girls will probably will do 40M-50M in 24 hours. This clearly proves is YG the ones who make the groups they want pull those numbers because they have the secret "tricks" for it
Sounds like you are salty that whatever group you stan doesn't get many views.

Underwhelming compared to BP debuting with an all kill, yes. However, I think it's too early to say if their debut was actually underwhelming or not considering it's the era where everything has to rise slowly. 24 hours is way too soon to make such a judgment. Newjeans first few days were underwhelming as well, and we all know how that turned out in the end. Give it time.

I would say 2022 was more impactful. 2018 was probably the best year for the 3rd Gen if you wanted to make some 3rd and 4th gen battle.

I'd say Twice was really only the clear top girl group in 2016-2017 since they were so dominant during that time. Twice was still very competitive in 2018-2019 so it could be argued they were still the top girl group in both of those years. 2019 was just a weird year where both BP and Twice got overshadowed by multiple groups in some areas. Then from 2020 on it was BP by a mile since The Album did so well and Twice was continuing their flop era that started from Feel Special onward.

You can’t compliment someone without being an askisser? Also how is saying he is a mediocre singer but he did pretty well considering his age and him dancing the whole time a great compliment? You think half of Blackpink can do that? They can barely sing and dance without a backtrack in their 20s let’s see them do it in their 50s. Same for some members of twice let’s be real. Some of y’all can Sit down cause the criticism y’all have of JYPs singing can apply to roughly half the Kpop industry being generous
Kinda funny reading that considering how often BP sing audibly live compared to Twice with their overpowering backtrack or straight out lip-sync lmao.

The problem is you are watching clips of the performance with the people only highlighting the people making faces. If you watch the whole performance there were plenty of people that looked like they were enjoying it. Also many people react funny because the ridiculous outfits and make up JYP wears. When JYP finished his performance he received plenty of applause. The problem is people think people don’t like JYP when he is probably of the better liked older artists in the industry.
The audience as a whole looked way different, much less enthused, during JYP's performance compared to the rest of the entire show. Some worse than others.

Nah wasn’t awful. Thu I agree he isn’t that good of a singer but it doesn’t sound bad either.
Maybe years of listening to Twice's music has made bad singing sound normal to you, I'm not sure. But his pitch was all over the place more than half of the time. Unless you think off-pitch singing sounds good somehow. -
It was awful. I do give him credit for singing live, even if it was nearly off key half the time.

This almost makes Momo look like a competent vocalist by comparison.

Isn't the title incorrect though, even the tweet in the OP does not use the word only? They aren't the only ones awarded MBEs, here is a whole list of awardees
https://www.billboard.com/list…ueen-elizabeth-ii-honors/
Also honorary is a term used for non Brits, Britishers get regular MBEs, so Adele and Beatles did not get honorary MBEs but just MBEs.
Rose having NZ citizenship means she got an MBE. The other three have honorary.
Idk why you are so salty though. -
Honestly same
-
scarily accurate line division

Would probably be more successful than any of the things written by JYP or the Lindgrens for them the past few years

All right! It's my time to shine! I knew this would turn to NewJeans if I waited long enough, and Blinks can't complain at me with claims that I'm rooting for BP's downfall.
Doing...really well?
I'm sorry, but is that how we're going to describe the following achievements:
- 64 weeks in the Melon Top 10 Weekly--the longest streak in history and the only group with over a year on the chart
- Biggest streaming year on Youtube South Korea in history with over 609M streams, breaking BTS's record from 2021
- 169 days at #1 on Melon, the most ever, and literally more than double the amount of time as BlackPink
- Over 5 billion points on Circle's Digital Index, becoming the 2nd fastest group (after BTS) to hit this mark and fastest girl group overall
- First K-Pop Group in the history of the Korean charts to occupy #1, #2 and #3 on every chart in Korea for 3 consecutive months
- Most PAK hours in K-Pop History with Ditto with 655 PAK hours
- Hype Boy spent 51 weeks in the Melon Top 10--you guessed it, another record
- First and only group in history to earn over 1 billion Circle digital points with a debut song (Hype Boy)
- Reached 800 million streams on Melon with only 14 songs in only 384 days (the previous record was 991)
- Over 140 weeks in the Melon Weekly Top 10--BlackPink is at 109
I could go on and on, but you get the point.
Did I mention NewJeans did all of this in a single year? Most of these are CAREER accomplishments, and this list isn't even a quarter of their dominant achievements in Korea. It's just what I feel is the limit of what people are willing to read.
We can argue about overall global popularity, but NewJeans have absolutely already peaked higher than BlackPink or any girl group ever in South Korea.
Even the most diehard fans of other girl groups can just pray for their downfall, like:
Yet I'm the one who gets accused of doing the same with BlackPink. Hmmmm?
Also, are we really going to act like NewJeans isn't managed by one of the best creative minds in K-Pop history in Min Heejin, not JYP? And are we also going to pretend their global achievements don't already FAR outstrip anything any girl group has ever done in their first year? They've already hit 3 billion streams on Spotify in record time, put 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in a single year (a GIRL GROUP record not just a K-Pop record) and had the #1 best selling album in the U.S., beating out one of the biggest summer movies of all time in Barbie.
Stop coping and understand they're next up.
But, my fellow 3rd gen girl group stans, we can always continue to fight over the crumbs left behind by the next generation up.
Basically all of the achievements come down to the vast differences in how Gaon and Melon are compared to the majority of the third gen.
The same argument could be made against Newjeans. We could say D4 with well over a million UL's, the highest for any girl group ever, is an insane peak that Newjeans' music comes nowhere close to. We could talk about D4 holding the record for the most Gaon points for any song, male or female, in a song's debut week, at around 75 million points. D4 also holds the title for the most points for any group's song in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th weeks. These kinds of records go on.
These are all things that are still their records and show that no group has ever surpassed their peak. But if we're being honest, it's because it was at the peak of melon, and at a time that downloads still had a big effect on the chart. Just like the changes to melon make it much easier for NewJeans in their peak era to chart forever in the top 10. All of these records are really hard to compare due to the differences in generation. I do agree that in Korea NewJeans is bigger in Korea currently, as it is their peak era, but I wouldn't say their peak is necessarily bigger than BP, Twice, or even SNSD's peak when taking each era for each generation itself into consideration. - 64 weeks in the Melon Top 10 Weekly--the longest streak in history and the only group with over a year on the chart
