That’s the result of the combo k.o from girls’ poor reception internationally and some damage done by got the beat’s panned second release plus the drama of sm’s implosion from earlier this year. The aespa brand was taking some serious hits but luckily for them spicy was a moderate hit and restored some of aespa’s hype back for their next release, and we’re seeing that first hand with drama’s initial numbers.

Better things not doing better despite spicy’s success imo boils down to the generic concept and low budget mv and softer sounds, which don’t really align with the image portrayed in their biggest hits outside korea, they didn’t even seriously promote it, and for some reason english singles by kpop groups almost always do worse than their korean songs on global charts. Very few exceptions to this rule it seems.

i think their point is if you don’t call ive “yujin and wonyoung’s kindergarten daycare”, it’s weird and honestly stupid to pretend nj members are so much younger than their peers. I mean it’s perfectly valid to call out the industry for debuting girls as young as 14, but acting like it’s a nj special and not a wide-scale issue is not the way to go at it. Xg’s talents don’t get talked about enough, and that’s not even including their charms and charisma. One of the most impressive groups to emerge in years for sure

This is fundamentally false. During the decade spanning since 2ne1 came into existence and then bp debuted, only 3 other top ggs started to adopt this “pre-release” strategy (rv’s automatic, mamamoo’s i miss you/paint me/dinga dinga, gidle’s i’m your fan/my bag), and even then, it was more a novelty soft launch on rv’s part and they never considered it again for any future releases. In more than 10 years, a whopping number of 2 top ggs sporadically and not always seriously adopting this strategy at random times does not spell a popular promotion tactic, at all.

Yg’s groups might have pioneered this practice, but they did not make it popular. People seem to confuse these two notions all the time when there’s a big difference between them. You look at ive, aespa, nmixx, itzy now, and it’s quite obvious they only picked up this strategy right after nj hit it out of the park not once but twice with their double/triple-feature combos. The timing is just too uncanny lol. Those ggs had had ample time with multiple cbs before nj’s debut to do it, but they didn’t. Yg’s groups and even some sm or jyp bgs might’ve adopted it earlier than nj, but they certainly aren’t what the top ggs looked at to decide to start trying it out for themselves. Whether one’s a fan of nj or not, it’s quite willfully ignorant to deny the impact nj has left in the industry in this regard at least.

agreed tbh. Either way and off the record are perfectly nice songs, but they’re not title tracks material imo and detract from the brand image that ive had built for themselves and should’ve kept leaning on hard to differentiate from other top ggs. These two tracks should’ve been kept as bsides for a super duper catchy main single, which is ive’s forte and reputation atp, maybe release the mvs for fans as a special gift or sth, but ultimately they shouldn’t use them to “lead up to” and promote this cb imo.

It’s not gonna do better than queencard due to how barren and unconventional the hook is as far as mainstream kpop goes, not to mention it’s in english and the mv isn’t exactly high budget or extraordinary, but this still hits pretty hard as a club banging voguing anthem I see it like a spiritual relative of xg’s tgif which is another voguing galore spectacle

This is tame for op’s standards lol they used to make countdown bop or flop threads literally almost a week before the actual release of the most popular groups so they’d snatch it before anyone else did Less than a day means nothing

akp shy is the best theme to use by far. All the dark themes have way too dark backgrounds and thin text fonts in either too dim or too bright neon colours, so it’s impossible to read for a long time without getting a major headache after squinting for too long. Meanwhile the rest of the light themes don’t display a distinction between threads you have and haven’t opened (by bolding thread titles of those you’ve haven’t read and unbolding those you have) like akp shy does, so using them will obviously be a nuisance to keep track of your activities too. It’s kinda amazing how out of like a dozen themes they designed only 1 managed to be remotely usable
