Bora is touted to be main vocalist material, maybe comparable to nmixx’s lily even, so that knetz poster was expressing their “unpopular opinion” about bora bc they don’t like her voice/techniques despite her being praised so much for her skills. No idol in the ggs you mentioned is marketed to be vocal powerhouses so of course no one’s gonna complain about them being “unjustly praised”, bc no one claimed those idols are at lily’s level in the first place. There’s literally no correlation between their comment and your “hypocrisy” complaint 🤡

not really, if we are going to compare, we should consider other factors, even if britney, taylor and rihanna are not the best vocal wise, they are still decent vocalists and stomp on 99 percent of kpop vocalists, not in any other industry would you find the likes of sakura level vocalists thriving purely thanks to their visuals.
i do agree that kpop as an industry is more hyper focused on looks than other markets are, but that doesn’t negate my point. The baseline for what’s required at the minimum to pass as “acceptable singing skills” differs between each market, but as long as you pass that threshold, vocal talents alone do not determine whether you end up on top or not, be it in kpop or anywhere else

i’m not saying vocal talents do not ever help. they do, sometimes. but most of the time, as long as you don’t sound like nails on a chalkboard, and you have other factors to help further your career (which are far more necessary/important to possess than extraordinary talents), you’re good to go. the most popular are rarely the most talented. that’s the point

Vocal talent is irrelevant in ANY pop music market, not just kpop. You think celebrities like britney spears or rihanna or taylor swift are so successful because they’re the most skilled singers of their generation? Lol. Were you born yesterday or what. Pinning this on kpop as if it’s a unique phenomenon only observed in this niche, when in fact kpop is just following in other markets’ footsteps in literally everything, is cute 😂

My second impression:
Ok on first watch i thought the choreo for each head-to-head battle was exactly the same, but turns out only a few key points in each performance were required, while the rest is up to the dance crew to decide. So that’s why i thought the choreo for the hybe mission was the weakest, when in reality it’s only due to jam republic’s choreo and performance lol. Mannaqueen’s choreo blew them out of the water, especially during the bluebeard section. They’re better dancers and performers too. Jam republic was definitely not up to mannaqueen’s level of skills and that horrendous choreo did them no favours lol
1million chose the perfect outfits to perform their shut down section, it’s like the choreo was made for them and their strengths, even during the “required” parts that both groups have to perform and can’t freestyle. Wolflo’s baggy outfits hindered them when it came to showcasing their skills imo and the choreo during parts that they can construct themselves isn’t as impressive or memorable as 1million’s
Bebe’s performance grew on me on second watch, but overall the dancers seem to be stiffer and less “loose” like those from tsubakill
Deep n dap and ladybounce are probably the pairing with the least amount of parity in skills for me, but my personal preference picks deep n dap. It was the closest match tho

The sm groups mission (next level + kick it):
Ladybounce vs deep n dap
The yg groups mission (shut down + some bigbang song? lol):
Wolflo vs 1million
The jyp groups mission (not shy + maniac):
Tsubakill vs bebe
The hybe groups mission (bluebeard + dope):
Mannequeen vs jam republic
It’s harder to compare between those 4 groups that come out on top bc the choreo isn’t of their choosing and might not display their whole abilities. Gotta say whoever’s in charge of the choreo did the hybe mission dirty bc it’s relatively the weakest of the 4. This is not a reflection of the groups’ skills and performance tho, just of the choreographer’s.

tbf when it comes to creating cinematic, otherworldly concepts, idt there’s any creative director in kpop who can rival mhj, at least rn. She gets dragged a lot for her questionable taste in films, but ironically her origin as a film buff, particularly that “indie film” aesthetic & vibe that she picked up from her personal interests, has served as a tremendous vehicle to make her creative output stand out in the sea of “fast-food” concepts churned out by the minute in kpop. You go back to rv’s automatic, f(x)’s four walls, shinee’s view etc. and it’s abundantly clear the woman has established her own signature cinematic style no one is doing in kpop. Jyp has absolutely no way to compete with that lol so unfortunately anything they could come up with would never be able to outdo mhj regarding such a specific poetic & fantastical theme like shakespeare’s “a midsummer night’s dream” 😅
