if they are all Asian American then it's safe to say they are targeting specifically Kpop fans. But if they are a multi-racial group then it's obvious they are going for a 1 Direction-esque group with better talent and prodction which, contrary to you op, I think is very much possible.
It's just a matter of how well they can adapt to the market which, again, I think is possible.
In terms of success though, out of the three (JYP, HYBE, and SM) I don't see SM doing very well. Not for any of the reasons you listed but just because they are straight up tacky and think their corny asses can can do well without attempting to be public friendly. superM is proof enough. They really thought up the name "SuperM" and thought it was cool in spite of just sounding dorky (worse like the word Sperm) then proceeded to debut them and push them with "Jopping". Regular everyday people in the U.S would never take a song like jopping seriously, but SM is so out of touch with what's considered fresh and trendy that it's honestly no surprise to me that they are now a mid-ranked company. The only reason I haven't dismissed NCTHollywood as an outright failure already is because SM is partnering with MGM or whoever in order to produce this group, so with luck, they will maybe have a voice of reason helping them adapt correctly to the market.
Heres how I would do it if I were SM:
1: Make it a small group, 5-7 members.
2: Make group multi-racial, not just white boys. Make it Black, white, Asian. We want Male Bratz diversity energy. (Ik some people think it's best to have all-Asian Americans but tbh with an opportunity like this I think it's kind of a waste since it is America, and diversity is one of our main principles we strive for as a nation, not to add other races. Plus, American general public would probably take the group more seriously if their were faces in it that they could relate to).
3. Air the survival show on a large TV or Online Network like Netflix, Hulu, or what channels you find stuff like The Voice or American Idol on. JYP was smart to do this with NiZiU in Japan. SM should take note. Airing it on some obscure network or app that only Kpops would bother to check out out of curiosity or boredom is a mistake.
4. CHOOSE GOOD MUSIC. None of that Jopping shit. Choose music that even an everyday regular adult could listen to in public without feeling somewhat embarrassed. Also, stop making all the music 100% kid friendly. It doesn't have to be anything too crazy, but make it feel real. Sing about shit than teen and young adults go through.
i really like these ideas especially on point with the survival show one, this makes more sense on why idol pop might be successful in korea rather than saying blackpink or bts exists. survival shows can really build hype especially in netflix, netflix is very powerful imagine how the show can go viral if it gets promoted on main page of netflix

there's nct hollywood

I agree with this too, I think Scooter Braun will lead the project and thats 100% better

So SM give up on Chinese market.
actually if i were them i would give up too, they're so bad at predicting the market. they had many chinese idols that had it big in china and they only own one of them. whichever chinese idol that they let go becomes extremely popular within years, they let kris, luhan and tao leave and they're now more profitable than overall exo. they let victoria dip but she is now a top idol in china and ended her contract before she was offered a better one, they kicked out amber and now she will do numbers in china with her chuang appearance... lol sm is bad at this ngl

there will be fan meetings with Garret and he will do aegyo to his fans...
-
You do realize that American artists are also extremely popular in other countries right? They also aren't supported solely by the American gp.
its because of their dominance in american market and globalization, idols are promoted 100 times differently than american artists, how do you promote an idol in america thats the question. if american idol pop is going to be idols popular in east asia coming back to america to use their fandom to hit it big... we already have that
-
-
Idol groups are already working in America though.
because of their massive fandom. the idol groups that are said to work in america all have their base fandom in china, korea and japan. if you take out everything from them and leave them to the american gp they will be not as succesful and it will definitely not work.
-
NCT Hollywood theoretically already has a fandom.
what about others lmao

I mean this was literally in the original NCT presentation years ago, so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise.
I think overall music has become very nichefied, accelerated by the growth of streaming - people are not stuck to only what plays on the radio but can explore the tastes and types of things that interest them. There are many many successful artists in the west that sell albums or tours without being a darling on the chart, so I disagree that the market doesn’t exist in the US. It’s just not the big mainstream market, so it depends on what you are looking to achieve in the West - even capturing a portion of the US market is still larger than many other regions..
I always find it so strange when people who don’t even live in Korea or often don’t even speak Korean try to say it’s “not being Kpop, if they’re not singing in Korean,” but whatever. Kpop is a genre that has its own flavor and style that is not just “it’s a pop song sung in Korean.” (In fact, like many genres, there are sub genres within this genre, but I digress.) I don’t see a song as less Kpop because it’s sung and danced to in English any more than I do when it’s sung and danced to in Japanese or Mandarin.
I also find it particularly weird since most of 3rd and 4th Gen Kpop, and even a large chunk of 2nd Gen has a mashup of Korean...and...English. Plus Kpop has a long history of creating English, Japanese and Chinese singles...
its not kpop not because its sung in another language, what makes kpop kpop as a genre its system and overall how it works with all its promotion etc. overall, companies have to adopt to the country they're in. for america case kpop standards can't exist in america basically and its not marketable at all. they will definitely have to adapt and from that moment it won't be kpop.
-
Honestly I don't know why companies aren't pushing soloists in the West instead of groups. Groups are mostly dead there(unless you're a band) and soloists are just more marketable and tend to be taken more seriously. It's like they're asking to fail nnn
also even though you're in a group only just one member stays relevant like jusrin timberlake or beyoncé

these are my own counter arguments
1) sm, jyp or hybe will never have their own beyoncé, victoria beckham (posh scipe), nicole scherzinger, justin timberlake, camila moment. no group in america is popular without their own suzy to their missA, are they ready for this?
2) america actually had idols and they were disney idols, their era is over because of a lot of shifts in the industry.
3) its no drama no fame in america, are kpop companies ready for this? do they have their own connections? with this much of rules will these scandal cause drama? how the rules will be?
4) will american people especially idols be able to adapt this very korean system? this leads me to my 5th point
5) no random talented american will apply to be in a idol group to be under put the pressure of korean discipline. it will be just kpop fans who can't on obviously make it in korea
6) america is over safe music era unless youre jojo siwa, can they pull a music thats similar to future nostalgia, after hour, positions, doja cat etc? will it be as good?
7) you may not notice but many asian countries like vietnam, indonesia, kazakhstan, thailand, philippines etc are trying to have their own kpop moment. these groups are not internationally recognized but they are as qualified as a mid-level kpop group. the reason why is that there was a demand from the general public. if korean companies push american idols without any backing from gp, how will that endup?
there can be more said, but im bored and too excited to see them flopping

It's not about tension. The Hong Kong flag to China is no more different than the Texas or New York state flag to the USA.
Hong Kong is not independent.
Because there's less tension between china and Hongkong
than Taiwan and china
Hong kong is independant
While taiwan is more ambiguous, some people claim it's an independant nation and others claim that it belongs to China
for people who defend the idea of of taiwan being chinese, there's only 1 flags and it's the chinese flags
that's why raising the taiwan flag is more controversial, because you admit that you're supporting the independance of Taiwan
The guy was a Hong Kong nationalist from head to toe and in start of his career he never said that he's from China but said he is from Hong Kong. If it makes sense to y'all for him to do a 180° turn and start carrying Chinese flags here and there and even calling his homeland "shameful" makes sense to y'all... go clutch your purse and check whether your lunch money is there or not because im scared that you might get robbed and don't notice it
