It’s hard to measure what girl group is above all others bcs all these girl groups excel in some niche or category that the others do not.
Snsd were a legend in korea, Noone can beat Twice in Japan, Blackpink dominate overseas and in the west, and aespa have just started to become a staple in Korea.
There’s no girl group who genuinely topples the rest in every category like BTS does for boy groups and I don’t think we’ll ever see a gg like that.

Maybe the first question is, would IOI have done better than Mamamoo and GFriend in the long run?
Honestly I think so. Especially considering that by 2017 Gfriend was beginning to fall off after they released Fingertip.
And IOI was only behind Twice as the best selling 3rd gen gg on Gaon in 2016. So the selling power was definitely there.
And IOI (imo) would have garnered an international/western fanbase faster than Twice could seeing as they had 2 fluent english speakers and their music was more diverse in that it could appeal to korea and internationally (especially with whatta man)
So it’s not really far fetched to think they’d be higher than RV.

Or just debut the new girl group with good music! If Nmixx debuted with the type of music they release now things would be very different
I do agree with both groups being similar in concept earlier! Nmixx easily could have been a 5th gen group? Not sure whyJYP wanted 2 4th gen groups instead
And still they’re planning on debuting a new girl group either this year or (most likely) 2026.
I just hope whatever kpop girl group comes out that company follows the twice blueprint. We need more ggs like early Twice
I think Jyp messed up with debuting nmixx only a couple of years after itzy AND debuting them with a concept somewhat similar to itzy.
yes nmixx has the whole “mixxpop” thing going on but when it comes to certain songs between itzy and nmixx you can exchange them for either group and they could pull it off. they’re on the thin line of being too similar with their experimental/wacky sound.
tbhi feel the only way jyp can have another mega successful girl group is if they go the same route as twice again. a large korean girl group reminiscent of early twice could definitely help them propel back into the force they used to be imo.
Meanwhile I'm questioning how we are already in 5th gen yet somehownewjeans is considered 4th gen?
At a certain point people are just agreeing that a new gen has started so they don't have to admit that their fave hasn't actually got any big achievement that they don't have a million arguable caveats for.
4th gen started in 2018, it’s been over. newjeans just so happened to debut at the tail end like lsfm, kep1er, nmixx, and so on. kind of like how bp, nct, pristin, and wanna one debuted near the end of 3rd gen
I think a lot of you are missing the ”5th GEN” aspect of my post. Why are we comparing illit songs to newjeans or other songs that topped the chart in 2024? this is about 5th gen only
I believe illit has the best chance in my opinion because hype has strong connections in the West and manages the media more effectively. However, they still need another hit song like Magnetic. I also think BM has a chance, but my bet is on illit for now.
If Illit can conjure up another hit as big as magnetic then they can definitely make it
