Can 3rd gen stans start getting used to 4th gen (and beyond) groups getting success and breaking some records?
It's the Kpop Circle of Life

Stop pitting queens against queens!
Anyhow, it's funny how a certain user is pretending that the company isn't the main reason 99% of kpop groups become popular. Did Twice (as much as I like them) write any of their early hits? Did they decide their own concepts, styling, choreography or stage design? Nope, that's not even the point of idol groups. And being from a big company is already starting way ahead of the competition.
It's just how the industry works. IDK why Newjeans brings out this nonsensical animosity in some of you (actually I know why, it's because they're successful).
Besides, kpop following trends isn't anything new. Are you old enough to remember Abracadabra by Brown Eyed Girls and how it triggered a trend of girl groups going dark and edgy? It also was not long ago when BlackPink laid down the template for modern girl crush. Kpop is inherently trend-chasing and moves at the speed of light.

This is difficult to answer, as an overseas kpop fan. Newjeans is probably more successful musically, but I think Twice had a level of fandom power that was basically the second coming of SNSD/Sones.
I mean, it was really Twice who started the trend of girl groups selling a ton of albums in the 3rd gen. They kept breaking records for gg album sales continuously from like 2016 on. They were a cultural reset, a clear sign that times had changed and the new generation had fully taken the crown from their seniors.
Newjeans is also that group too, though. 4th gen's dominance only became clear when they debuted. Before then, we were still treading water in gen 3.75.
So, idk? It's a toss up? Maybe newer groups can't reach that level of dominance anymore because of how decentralized our entertainment has become. If you don't want to know about a group, you can easily avoid them now compared to ten years ago.

Agreed. Some even call a group visiting a fashion show 'payola' nowadays.
Imagine saying that about Western artists: "that singer had payola because they got invited to a fashion show." They will laugh in your face.
Kpop fandoms are crabs in a bucket. They still have far less advantages than artists signed under American labels (yes even the biggest groups/labels), but they'll pull and tear at each other at any perceived bit of success.
It's especially funny to see them act like companies actually promoting their artists is a bad thing....as if that's not the point of record labels in the first place?
If Hybe could reliably pay their groups to the top of the charts, why haven't they done so with TXT? No offense to the guys, but Bang PD was really out here claiming they could hit #10 on BBH100 with the Jonas Brothers song.... just completely out of touch and tone deaf to boot!
Is anyone going to complain about Babymonster being sent to Knowing Bros when their song isn't even a hit? Or does payola only apply to Hybe groups?

imo, Aespa opened the 4th gen in 2020. So we're really only 4 years deep into the current generation. Which makes sense bc back in 2018-2019 the top 3rd gen groups were still in the summer of their success. It's only recently with the success of groups like Ive, Newjeans and TWS that I feel like a shift has happened and the majority of attention is on those newer groups. It's going to be at least another several years (maybe 4-5) for another power shift to occur.
Of course, maybe kpop generations just don't make sense.

I want to personally thank the Illit hate train for making me aware of this group. I didn't even know HYBE was debuting a new gg until I saw a hit tweet dragging them.
I see so many people in this thread wondering why these numbers are possible but to me it's obvious? The song is a total bop. I think the international kpop listener base has grown big enough that groups can have these viral hits as long as the song itself is catchy and *not divisive at all*. You'd think this would be easy to accomplish, but even the biggest kpop companies seem to consistently struggle with this. Whoever is in charge of the music at HYBE knows what they're doing, what can we say?
Anyway, it has given me endless chuckles to see the usual suspects foaming at the mouth and coping with the success of yet another HYBE gg. You know who you are, especially the fans of [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] stans.

Did hardy ever had a take that ended up to be true lol

Well, BigHit could’ve released some remixes. That would have helped a bit with sales.
But yeah, I think the style of music has to do with it as well. A lot of post-Dynamite armys are primarily pop fans. I don’t think Love Me Again/Rainy Days are not gp friendly, but they are slower paced and even a bit sleepy imo.
Then again, Blue & Grey was the best performing b-side off Be, so maybe that’s not it after all.
As for his voice, I like V’s tone sometimes (like on Magic Shop) but overall, his solo work isn’t for me. Maybe it’s the case for some other U.S. fans, but it is all subjective.
