I think it’s true that V’s solo fanbase is stronger in Asia than in the west. He will most likely have the highest album sales due to China/Japan fanbases.

Jungkook and Jimin are stronger in the U.S., yes. I remember My Time charting higher than On on U.S. iTunes during MOTS 7 era.

V is basically doing the same numbers (or better) globally as other BTS solos aside from Jungkook, so I don't know understand all the hysteria and claims that army aren't moving for him.

Charting on BB is more difficult since the elimination of d2c sales, plus the MHJ-style rollout didn't do the songs any favors either. It seems newjeans' success was a fluke because I honestly think BigHit would've done a better job.

Anyway, the important thing is that all of this was Taehyung's decision. Just like armys pressured Hobi into releasing a physical album to satisfy their own desire to do big numbers, I think a lot of armys are projecting their need to top charts onto Tae.

Maybe destroying the charts *isn't* what he was aiming to do with releasing these songs? Maybe him releasing the music *he* likes and expressing himself was the most important thing? He and the other BTS members have had enough success to last a life time, I'm sure he doesn't care as much as some of you do.

This campaign slays so hard. He absolutely ate the concept down to crumbs.

Not gonna lie, even as a JK stan, I never thought he was a good model. His photo shoots were usually whatever for me.

But he proved me wrong so much since the beginning of his CK ambassadorship. This is easily the most iconic campaign I’ve seen by a kpop idol

First of all, I think people need to release the expectation that every BTS solo is going to perform similarly. Each of the members has their own unique musical identity, which is part of why they are so interesting as a group. I trust that each of them will find the audience that appreciates what they bring to the table-- some people who enjoy Indigo for example may have no interest in Jungkook's mainstream pop, and that's okay.

Taehyung always had a recognizable musical identity. His solo songs tend to be slow, emotional ballads. People who already love songs like Winter Bear will probably enjoy his album a lot, but I don't think chart-busting bops are what he's aiming for.

Secondly (and this is just my opinion), I don't think Min heejin's style of releasing music goes well with army's consuming habits. For example, releasing the MV a few days before the song was on all music platforms may have lost him momentum on Spotify, Kcharts etc.

But in any case, I think it's frustrating that K-pop stans sometimes put more emphasis on chart performance than actually taking the time to savor and enjoy the music. Some of my favorite artists ever will never have a BB #1 song or album, but that doesn't ruin my enjoyment of their music. So maybe relax and worry about charts a little less!

His single is definitely coming in October. Album will be early November methinks. It’s a bit of a shame to me that the BTS solos are kinda not getting enough time to breathe— DDay and Face eras ran into each other a bit and I think JK and V’s album cycles are running into each other a bit too.

Anyway, this is great news. It will be iconic!

The issue with I-fans is that you’re assuming that the kpop idol scene = Korean music, which is not the case.

A more fair comparison would be between Kpop groups and j-idols like Johnny’s and the AKB franchise.

Just because idol groups are the only part of Korean music that is well known internationally doesn’t mean that’s all Korea has to offer. It has its own indie scene, rap scene, RnB scene, etc etc.

Personally, I miss some of K-pop’s old school corniness and jankiness. Nowadays songs are so sleek and groomed for global popularity. But maybe I’m just a 2nd gen geezer.

Also, Tell Me had one of the best choreographies in all of K-pop. The dance is easy, memorable and fits the song like a glove.

A worthy classic. And changed the face of Korean music!
