Their heads are going to explode when BTS releases a string of successful solo albums and then promptly comes back together to continue their group work.
Us westerners really have no point of reference for a pop band that doesn’t break up, but instead launches the members as solo artists while keeping the group intact. It’s natural if you’re not in the know about k-pop to take the BTS hiatus as another 1D situation, but as armys know the real deal, I hope they can relax and not jump to attack any journalists who makes the comparison.
also, the doomposting about Scooter Braun’s influence is unnecessary, in my opinion. He’s the president of HYBE America after all, what is in HYBE’s interest is in his interest, and what is in HYBE’s interest is to keep BTS together and their brand flourishing. Comparing Jungkook in 2023 to CL in 2015 (with 2ne1’s career off the rails and YG being a mess) is apples to oranges. Chill out guys!

the fact that he did that with no d2c sales makes it even better

early BTS (and even current BTS) had this really hungry vibe about them, like it was serve cvnt or die. That energy is what got them to where they are. so yeah, it worked out.

Blackpink wouldn’t be as big as they are today if they had more comebacks, more music, and more activities.
K-pop is an oversaturated market. When you have such an outstanding debut and make your presence immediately known, you don’t need to do what everyone else is doing. You do the complete opposite so it sets you apart from the rest. Let the comeback speak for itself when it does happen.
NewJeans is also being promoted in a very unorthodox style, and it works only because they had such a phenomenal debut just like Blackpink did.
I don't think any act that releases very little music (like Somi) benefits from it. At the very least, having more songs and comebacks would boost their streaming numbers significantly.
But it's not only about the charts. Having a more fleshed out discography allows an artist to explore music more, and dabble in different genres. Do you think the members are satisfied with the amount and variety of music they've released? 35-ish songs in 7 years is very meager for a group of people who presumably joined the company because they wanted to do music. Creatively, I think having a tiny amount of songs seems stifling. Especially considering they'll have to perform those same songs every concert.
Maybe BP would lose some of their exclusive image if they came back more, but conversely, I think it would do wonders for strengthening their fanbase and converting casuals into real fans. And expectations for every comeback wouldn't be so sky-high.
Can you imagine if they followed the Album in 2020 with an English single + full album roll out in 2021? It would've done numbers and made blinks very happy.

a gg selling 2m albums should not struggle to sell a small arena in the usa or europe
that should just not happen, if bp and twice could do it 4 years ago, these ggs should have no issue
we won't know until they do it. I think once they actually start promoting overseas, they'll hit it big

if u sell near 2m albums u should have too
where do those come from then? bc bp was selling domes at their second year, was sellin arenas of 20k for 3 days in thailand in 2019 that was with like 300k sales
so those numbers gotta come from somewhere
kpop album sales are inflated af in these days
I remember when domestically popular groups could only sell 100,000

this, people are being obtuse about metrics for reasons. But if you graph every relevant GG’s growth out, then no curve is as steep as the one NJ is on
they may be off to the best start in kpop ever
