Even suggesting that Side Effects is generic in any way, when SKZ were the first kpop group to incorporate psychedelic trance, and the effort put into making an unsettling composition to throw the listener off guard and make them feel what the song expresses, is impressive. A breath of fresh air in the industry.

She conveniently forgets to think about the power of nostalgia and survivorship bias when talking about the 3rd gen. There were a lot of songs that weren't that good back then too; people just forgot about them. And many kpop stans got into kpop in the 3rd gen, and there was indeed a shift in trends (such as the rise of teen crush for girl groups), so if they don't like it, that's not necessarily because the music is objectively bad, but rather because it's not what they're used to.

if a gg were to take off in the us it would have to be small an a girl crush/badass concept. So basically BP. I can't see westerners getting into groups larger than 5. And there isnt really an audience for cute concepts. So yeah basically they just gotta try and replicate bp if they want their own. but still as more girl crush groups debut, it'll likely loose its effect and not hit as hard in the west

For 3rd Gen below the Big 3 + Mamamoo/Oh My Girl, there are groups like WJSN, Dreamcatcher who are doing pretty well. Momoland they seem to died but they are still alive. CLC, well is CLC. And there's Lovelyz who just disbanded. If we count Brave Girls as 3rd Gen (since their current lineup is 3rd gen), then nothing captures the public more than them.

For 4th Gen, below the Big 3 + IZ*ONE, StayC, we have Weeekly, (G)I-DLE, Everglow, Purple Kiss, LIGHTSUM. Honestly the other groups are still....pretty nugu.

Still, nothing compared to 2nd Gen. Big 3 itself already have SNSD/Wonder Girls/2NE1/miss A/f(x). We still have Sistar, Kara. Below them we still have Apink/EXID/4Minute/Girls Day/BEG. All these groups are actually well known, compared to the 4th Gen now.

Then again 4th Gen just started, so we will have to see. I'm sure it will be stronger when we have upcoming groups like Kep1er which might actually come sooner than we think.

And we have our post IZ*ONE members paving the way with HYBE NGG with Sakura and Chaewon, and Starship NGG with Wonyoung/Yujin coming soon. Not to mention Chaeyeon

no but fr some of these stans would hate on a song by their faves if it was released by another group they hate just because they hate the group. But lets not deny the fact that it goes the other way too, a lot of kpop stans only like and listen to songsbecause its from their faves and if the name wasn't attached to it, they probably wouldn't care about it or even call it trash
