The group isn't really known to the public yet -
Blackpink had much more hype if you take in account how much kpop rose in the past 6 years. The old Blackpink predebut thread had more pages than most artist threads. The individual member pictures threads had over 20 pages back in 2016. I think they would still be close to the highest debut mv views if they didn't release two MV's and not exclusively on VLIVE for the first 8 hours.

It performed worse than Whistle at first, but stayed on the charts for a while and then got a boost from a performance on Produce.

Playing with Fire didn't initially perform as well as Whistle and knowing YHS it made him question everything and probably led to the following comebacks being canceled. Back then a YG artist not reaching #1 on Melon and Gaon was a huge failure for YHS. Dude was obsessed with reaching #1 on the charts.

This is it folks. 51 months and this is what we have on Melon Monthly for all Kpop groups, and we had to add in a rando hit from a band and an old song from 2017 to even get to this point. Adding in Kpop soloists gives you Sunmi, Taeyeon and some rando hit by Mino of all people.
ETA: this is the chart i used.
This hurt me. XX was the best album released that year.

I keep seeing the Miss A excuse being used but I don't understand it. Rather I think they just want their idols to have no solo activities so they're effectively completely dependent on the company & group brand, then when contract renewals come they'll have no choice but to re-sign because they'd most likely flop if they left.
Yes, that is what I meant. JYP is no longer aiming for the top with their groups. It's all about long-term profitable groups that take as much money out of their fans' pockets as possible. That's why JYP produces so many comebacks every year. Kpop is turning more and more into the Japanese industry where it doesn't matter what you release because you gain 100-300k in total album sales with every comeback anyway. Not saying JYP releases are worse than others but you know what I mean.
That's why they don't want individual popular members who could potentially cause turmoil in the group.

This is usually what happens if the company decides to ignore the rumours and just push through with their plans. Helps for now but could backfire badly if the rumours start to pop up again later and maybe even turn out to be true.
Basically the group could always self destruct at this point. This is not the same as Soojin and Cube. Soojin's actions weren't known before her debut with Gidle. You can't blame Cube or the group for her debut. Hybe knew about the rumours and willingly decided to continue with Garam.Also keep mentioning the garam rumours under the teasers for the other members is unfair to them. They worked hard to get their and shouldn't get blamed for the possible actions of someone else.
