Can Irene ever become an it girl again?

    Approved the thread.
  • Unlikely. Her scandal really made everyone think twice about hiring her and now there's new upcoming idols like wonyoung who could be offered Irene old cfs and stuff.

  • Knetz are ruthless, they are harrasing minor in a case where there is literal zero proof, so do you think they will reclaim Irene back after her scandal had actual proof?

I think you know the answer

  • honestly..... no.

she's not young or trendy/fresh anymore.

she needs skills to back herself up - but she can't debut solo, has little acting experience, and not suited for variety or MCing. all she has is her face, which can't compete with the new crop of 4th gen visuals (wonyoung, sullyoon, yuna, winter).

how would she be able to be an it girl again?

  • as a kpop idol, sadly no. but if she can go to the actress route maybe but her acting sucks, she needs to improve that.

  • What about Jennie than? She’s an it girl and I wouldn’t call her ‘young’ especially compared to the newer up and comers like wonyoung

And common now did u really have to comment on her face ‘not comparing’ bruh

  • I recently got the impression netizens are fine with irene now. She was praised for her firm attitude when angry photographers yelled at RV to take off their masks. She also still gets mentioned as legendary 3rd gen visuals in netizen forums. I think she was still voted as prettiest female idols by fellow idols in the year after the scandal on isac. Seems like idols as well as netizens have no problem associating with her, which is suprising because as another user said, other idols lose their entire career over unproven accusations and their members withdraw from them while irene certainly was proven to be guilty by big industry names and yet still is quiet succesful

Irene as “it-girl” might not happen in that sense, but she will probably always be remembered and mourned as one of the legendary female idols of her time

  • According to kpop stans there 100 IT girls which is completely silly. You're not an IT girl just because you're popular. That's the bare minimum.

Jennie is currently kpop's IT girl. No contest. Everyone wants to be her (or her best friend) or just wants her. Her popularity is massive. Everything she wears and does becomes trendy almost instantly.

  • She was never an it girl on the same level as jennie, hwasa, etc in the first place.

  • isn't she too old for being an it girl?

  • No. Too much competition now and Korea is kind of ageist when it comes to women.

  • Irene has mc experience, she was great at hosting music bank. She could also definitely go into more acting. Also, she’s a great dancer so she has opportunities

  • What about Jennie than? She’s an it girl and I wouldn’t call her ‘young’ especially compared to the newer up and comers like wonyoung

And common now did u really have to comment on her face ‘not comparing’ bruh

you really cannot compare irene to jennie, it's like trying to compare red velvet to blackpink. tho jennie's future dominance will depend on what happens to blackpink since idk what solo activities she'd be interested in pursuing - she has way more opportunities than irene tho. jennie's also 5 years younger than irene.

Yes she was. She was a soju model, that explains enough.

irene was a soju model for 1 year before iu snatched that cf back (and this was before irene's scandal, clearly she didn't pull the kind of number chamisul was hoping for)

  • The whole 'it girl' stuff is as shaky and subjective as international fans calling certain songs 'national hits' of South Korea... with k-pop fans gatekeeping and determining for Koreans what their 'national hits' or who were the 'it girls', dismissing everything and everyone they dislike.

    Anyway.

For a couple of years Irene was top tier in popularity and trendiness, with the most CFs and endorsements among 3rd gen idols, ranging from popular, big brands to exclusive, high quality brands and going viral multiple times in those years, to the point that Koreans talked about the 'Irene effect'.

She isn't at that peak anymore.

It's also doubtful she'll return to that peak: 3rd gen idols are slowly being replaced by 4th gen idols, and 'it girl' is by definition something for younger, newer, rising idols to become, like idols from the upcoming groups that are the successor of the 3rd gen groups, that are either disbanding, on the verge of change or otherwise handing the baton to the new generation.

Like already happened with Hani, Seolhyun, Hwasa, Irene and Suzy and Yoona before them.

  • More interesting question would be, "Can IU ever stop being an it girl?"

Jennies come and Irenes go, yet IU continues year after year.

When will Chamiseul, 60% of Soju market, which is most popular booze in the world - therefore the ultimate certificate on "It-ness" stop having IU as the model?
