Do you consider any group that lacks strong digitals to be truly successful?

Might seem bias and I know I joke about them being nugu a lot of times in this forum, but Day6.
They do not have the best digitals, they do not sell as good as normal BGs, like mid tier BGs sell more than them, but they are like a "household name" in the industry and they are the "Korea's Representative Band".
Even if they don't have many hardcore stans, their music is recognised by the public as one of the best. They are propably Korea's most popular band right now, despite having all members in the military

Yes, specially when they can tour well... the so called "legacy" is so subjective, Momoland had like 2 hits, IKon had a huge one, Winner too... the hits can come and go, did a group really made a "legacy" when a song is bigger than them? Do you think any of these groups is going to be more remembered on the future than Got7, NCT, Stray Kids or Seventeen? To be remembered it's not only a matter of physicals or digitals, it's about the personal experience of each one and the impact a group has made on the industry, what makes them unique, what you connect a group to, etc.

I mean even though lacks digitals if u have big sold out tours isn't that successful?
I would say yes.
But my observation is that many kpop fans in general look down on groups that don't chart well even if they have massive sales and have huge fandom

So by this logic Momoland is more successful than Seventeen? Wut?
If your song enters the pop culture landscape that people constantly reference it of all ages and groups, if you can sell out arenas, if you’re trending globally because you changed your hair color or released a song, you are popular.
The idea that digital charting is the only metric or legacy doesn’t seem to understand how quickly Kpop changes. While I would argue that SM has some impressive longevity with its bgs, I also think you’re overestimating the memory of people.
We can see now here on AKP people coming and not having any idea about who people like Sistar are but knowing people from SuJu or Shinee. They don’t know a 2NE1 song but they know a Baekhyun song. In another five years, they may not know any of these and think of TXT as a group for old people and be into the next thing.
(And tbf, both Taemin and Baekhyun are respected despite not having strong digitals so again, there’s more happening here.)
Taemin doesn’t have a hit but he is well known inside and outside Kpop in Korea and other countries for his dynamic performance.
Also, it’s kinda ruining your point that only TVXQ is well respected among Kpop fans when you can’t even get the name of the group right. This goes to my point about people not knowing or caring about K-pop’s past groups in general because they’re on to the next thing.
Most only know Mirotic from covers, just as someday they’ll only know Growl from covers or Boss from covers.
I wasn't stating it as fact, and I agree it's not completely black and white
It was something I noticed and was curious about. It is my impression that kpop fans in general tend to ridicule groups that obv do have huge fandom but don't have hits and chart well. I think if you're nctzen then you definitely know what I mean... sometimes it's like fans looking down on other fans, because fans are bulkbuyers/streamers and only charts (GP attention) show "real" success... again, this is my impression I don't necessarily agree with it. I was looking for opinions.
