I read a little everyday

It's a really, really good book! I don't think it's very much like Harry Potter. It has elements of magic. They're important but in the first book, it doesn't play the biggest role.

It reminds me more of a medieval-fantasy type setting like Westeros (Game of Thrones) or the world of LOTR/The Hobbit.

So basically, a 19 year old girl named Kelsea who has been in hiding since the age of 3 is the only daughter of the former queen who passed away shortly after her daughter had left, the first heir to the throne of the Tearling. It opens with Kelsea being sent away along with a group of Queen's Guard to a dangerous and long journey to the Keep (basically the country's castle for royalty) which only takes about 1/6ish of the first book.

She has a magical sapphire necklace that she spends most of the book trying to figure it out (I won't say the abilities revealed in case of spoilers though). There's a slave trade that goes on to prevent a Mortmesne invasion (a neighboring country, much more advanced in technology, knowledge and weaponry) made by a treaty signed by Kelsea's mother since the first Mort Invasion on the country was devastating to the country. So, in order to prevent thousands of deaths, thousands of country residents are shipped off to Mortmesne every year (250 every month). If the treaty is breached (if the slave trade doesn't arrive by the 8th of every month), it gives Mortmesne and their ruler, the Red Queen (name is unknown) full right to invade the Tearling again.

When Kelsea arrives, she orders to burn down the cages taking men, women and children to basically being sold as slaves which causes a BUNCH of problems.
