Tzuyu will end up as one of the biggest "what could have been" idols

  • In her debut year she was the most popular member in most places, an It girl given stages with Seolhyun & Hani very early on who were much more established than her, getting solo cf's and generally getting a lot of push due to her popularity. Looked like she was on her way to becoming one of the biggest kpop stars.

Forward 7 years she remains difficult for any brands that get income in China due to the Taiwan complexity which is a lot. So now that the company are pushing solo deals she ends up with companies much lower in stature than what some of the other members have. She's not as talented as some of the other members so really makes minimal buzz during comeback and tour time, with no big improvements either which we've seen someone like Jihyo show getting her a lot of love. When was the last time she had an era where she was talked about or praised? Can't remember. The most she has been talked about in the last few years was during the Olympics when old archery videos of her went viral again which says a lot.

Twice's switch in concepts has suited other members much better and they've shined in it, whereas Tzuyu has come out worse in terms of she no longer gets killing parts as it doesn't suit her.

She went from being the idol with the upmost potential to a small presence in a 9 member group, though she still has the biggest fandom within the group. But it now feels like she has one of the most "difficult" futures in a post Twice world which people would never have guessed in their debut year as she never got to establish a brand for herself in the end. Not popular in South Korea anymore, promoting in Taiwan could give her issues due to politics, doesn't fit a solo career. She's probably up there now as one of the members that will be most reliant on Twice.

When was the last time such a big idol at debut had their career go this way? Discuss :eyes:

    Approved the thread.
  • You said it perfectly. She really has zero charisma on stage if compared to the popular members like her so her future as a singer is uncertain. She is beautiful and that's all, she looks stiff even when talking. Like a robot.

  • Could’ve been the first foreign it girl

And paved the way for future ones too

    Such wasted potential

  • I would say Luhan, he became an it boy and then left...Korea but at least he was super popular in China and has a good life there.

Tzuyu is very fanbase driven, which helps her when she leaves Twice but it's harder for her fanbase to grow if her visuals aren't being showcased. This is very nitpicky but her blepharoplasty (surgery she got during Fancy) doesn't fit her at all, and with her eyebrows + skin lightening ages her. Bad styling.

I think she's popular in South Korea but a lot of those stans are visual-driven. Her airport pictures go viral, and she has a good reputation with her charity, it's just that her fellow members (Nayeon, Sana, maybe Mina?) have more stans.

Isn't Tzuyu still the most popular though internationally? I'd only worry if she became an actress and followed the Victoria route, who was similarly loved but then went to the C-market. And I thought Tzuyu shined in Alcohol Free.

  • Twice and bts member are all gonna end up like that.

BTS? No way, maknae line has the most loyal fanbase I've ever seen. Rap line are amazing producers and talented to hold their fanbases firm too. The only one with a problem may be Jin, but he going to variety shows and dropping some songs or even starring at some dramas also has the possibility of a fanbase following him.

In the end i don't think bts has a problem like this.

  • Honestly I watch her in twice concert footage and she seems so dull. The others have personality. Tzuyu's fans are reduced to having to hype her politely waving and smiling at someone as her 'omg queen slay!' moment. I feel like she's one of those people who let "pretty" be their defining characteristic and never develop in any other way.

  • Blame it to the director who came up with the idea of Tzuyu holding the Taiwanese flag

He basically destroyed Tzuyu and helped to put a certain 1,343 years old back to power.

Tzuyu is still Taiwanese so even without that flag incident she wouldn't be able to promote in China anyway. However maybe the shock from that affected her confidence and turned her into being personality-less. Actually I wasn't around back then so I'm not sure of how her personality was before the flag incident, was she more alive and active than currently?

  • With all due respect, not really. As a foreigner, there will always be a cap on her ceiling in Korea. Even with her visuals, she was always quiet on variety shows, showed little to no personality. Part of it maybe it's the language barrier, or maybe its her personality. But she never would've been an actress in Korea. So what valid career path is there? Just as a model?

Yeah she was livelier, not the most fun but certainly more than now. I think her career as an idol would have done better but she would have never been able to act in Korea. Taiwanese can promote in China is they support CCP hard enough.

Nah. Not her. Replace her with Sana instead.

No. Sana has a lot of personality and is a savvy marketer. Not to mention her Korean is way better than the rest of the foreigners. Sana was the unexpected blowup.

  • she's a beautiful girl but she has 0 charisma or charm. she's like those kind of girls that model at car shows or something. no star power, but can stand next to a product and look beautiful

Plenty of Taiwanese entertainers , including Huang An who started this shit, operated in China at that time.

So without this incident Twice and Tzuyu would have no trouble operating in there.

Yes, after the entire shitstorm which put Tzuyu at the center of the world at the age of 16, something in her changed forever. Before that she really looked like she would head for a world conquest - after that she never asserted herself again.

  • Tzuyu stans... they should really stop trying to push this 'Tzuyu as It girl' narrative. It's getting tiresome, and it's untrue, aside from the fact that it overexaggerates Tzuyu's quality and potential above the other TWICE members. Tzuyu has never been anywhere near the level of real It girls like Jennie, Irene, Hwasa and Wonyoung.

After all those years it should be clear by now that she's lacking in personality/liveliness/charisma, something quintessential. When it comes to potential, there are other TWICE members that had far more potential to become It girls, like Naeyeon, Sana, even Jihyo.

Unfortunately, JYP skipped out and didn't help raise that potential to see what heights they could've reached, and now it's simply too late.

    This, basically.

  • A "what if" basically amounts to nothing if they cant reach some of their potential.

Fans hype Tzuyu to the high heavens but what substance does she have outside looks? She's not a good singer or dancer, boring on TV, probably not into acting and so on. If she doesn't get cfs (which is also down to companies wanting hey in the first place, not just JYP denying her every single time like fans think) then she pretty much has little potential.

  • tzuyu stans are annoying af with the what if narrative. if there's any foreign female idol that had remotely any chance of being an IT girl in korea, it would have been Sana.
