this got waaaaaaay too long, god, what's wrong with me
The Boyz. It feels like they're going around in circles in both aspects. Cutesy boy next door vs generic sleek bg concept alternating. The main distinguishing feature of their music is only that it's marginally better produced than that of the average 4th gen bg. Other than it feels very derivative.
Enhypen. An ongoing trend with their music, at least to me, is that their instrumentals are genuinely promising, but the songwriting falls short, resulting in low replay value and memorability. There are songs in which everything feels strangely restrained, ending up not outright bad but definitely somewhat disappointing. And there are also songs that are just plain bland. I get the feeling their producers are playing safe and are consistently dragging down and underutilizing their own good ideas. I personally also don't really get where their music and concepts are going...? Also, I'm not a fan of the vocal processing on their music.
Treasure. YG needs to stop forcing that narrow-minded idea on what a YG boy group should sound like into their music, because it just...doesn't work. But the problem is, that that YG sound is somewhat integral to their identity now. Sigh.
TXT. Their first two releases were, while nothing exceptional, kind of cute, there was potential in that. Then their music and concepts began taking itselves more seriously which is just...no. Specifically, they're meant to appear more authentic now than they really are. BigHit should go back to making them sing them about barking or whatever instead of those poorly executed attempts at being deep and relatable. It's in an uncanny valley, it clearly wants to be more, but it feels too corporate and artificial for me to take seriously. As for their music, it also feels strangely restrained (in a similar way to Enhypen), and a bit all over the place. After listening to their songs 1-3 times I just don't get the feeling I'd ever listen to them again. Like for Enhypen, I'm also not a fan of how their vocals are processed, same goes for their breathy singing style.
Itzy. To be honest I was never a big fan of their music, but I still anticipated what they'd come out with next, for some reason. I personally feel like their concepts "maturing" wasn't executed that well...The campiness and juvenile fun that made them stand out was taken away and was replaced with something more generic. They're not bad, but feel a bit like their own early imitators but with a high budget. Their b-sides are getting significantly better, though! I think JYP should try building on those musically, at least just once.
Ateez. It's not that I dislike what they're doing but their "signature style" has gotten too much for me. It's not that it's completely the same every time...but it kind of feels like it's going around in circles now, and I simply got bored.
Everglow. I thought Ladida would've been a somewhat messy beginning to evolution from their uninspired EDM girl crush era but it wasn't.
Oneus, I liked their first two-three releases and then...I just became uninterested

Itzy and stray kids. They felt fresh back then but their concepts and songs aren't interesting to me anymore. It's sad because I used to look forward to Itzy comebacks the most.

Stay-C... BORING
Aespa. I don't understand the hype or what is so amazing about their barely coherent, silly music. Total gimmick group. I thought Black Mamba was ok. Next Level was overhyped. Savage was 100% comedy gold.
