Twice, Once a day #27 - "Cry For Me"

This song was such a missed opportunity. When it took off in popularity, JYPE should have promoted it as a second title. It's so good.

10/10. It's so good. It deserved an MV.

Watching this drop live at MAMA was confusing and exhilarating. Trying to figure out if it was a cover was fun.

Twice just casually drops a great song at an award show!!!

As for lyrics, a lot of people think this is a vindictive song about wanting to get revenge against a boy, or is a break up song.

I disagree.

I think it's about being so in love that, even though they realize it's a bad relationship, they can't bring themselves to leave. They just keep in it, and all they want in return is to see some emotions from the boy to validate where they are. Just a single tear would be enough to see that there are emotions there on both sides and make it all worth it.

The reason I think the relationship is still going is the lyrics in the chorus, the second verse, and in the bridge.

Chorus:

"Little by little I fall for you

Love makes my mind give way

And I keep making reasons to forgive"

2nd verse:

"I don't know but I just can't seem to hate you

Always defending you in front of my friends"

Bridge:

"Love is so toxic

It makes hatred melt away

I want you again by my side

So it looks to me that they're still in the relationship, trying to justify it to their friend group and outside observers. They get mad a lot, but then the love they have melts that away and makes them find a reason to forgive and continue on. They just want that show of emotions from the other side, even if it's just pretend, to justify to themselves why they stay.

At least that's the way I see it.

Probably musically the best I have ever heard from Twice. Not really my favorite song from them but if I were to be pretentious, then this is that one song from Twice

The biggest reason I think they're broken up is if they weren't, why would the girl want the guy to cry for her and making excuses to forgive. There has to be something to forgive. Also the "I want you again, you by my side" leads me to think they are seperated.

But I don't think its about wanting revenge like some think, I just think the girl wants the guy to feel the same way about the breakup and not seem so okay about it.

I can see that perspective.

I just don't think of it as after an actual break up. I don't feel a true finality to it. More that there are lots of high ups and low downs in the relationship, and this is during one of those downs. That they had fights or other issues, and those are what they want to forgive, but it's not finally over yet.

Maybe it's more of an "on again off again" thing.

Hard 10. Fancy and Cry For Me are Twice's top 2 songs ever made for me.

Imo it was the most interesting concept explored by Twice (after their cute concept era) and their most badass song

It's also my favourite Twice comeback.

1 - is the absolute worse song and it makes my ear bleed, there are only a rare few songs I'd put in 1, usually on a professional level, no reputation producing company should ever releases 1s.

10 - Is the absolute best song in the world and doesn't need any change or improvement and I usually think nothing is perfect so that's why you don't see me vote 10s.

So realistically my scale is 2-9.

2 - Very bad song, wonder how this went passed management and make it into production. Laughable and I'd probably insult the song every chance I get. Blows my mind how something like this could be created.

3 - Bad song, I understand songs are to peoples taste but even with that in mind, I can't understand how people can like it. Affects me emotionally in a bad way.

4 - Below average. Won't make it to my playlist or library, if it's a situational song, I may download some 4s it but it'll be skipped more than average. May just be songs that are not to my taste but I can see how some would like it.

5 - Average. It's good enough to go on my playlist. It's not bad, it's not good, don't care much if it comes up on shuffle. May be situational, usually I won't skip it but if the mood just isn't there, I may skip it.

6 - Above average. It's a good song. It's skipped less than usual. These are also sometimes songs that is okay at first and due to bias and favoritism (because they my bias group) I listen to it 100 times until it became ok to me.

7 - Great song, at the level I'd expect from big 3 companies. I probably won't actively search for the song but is happy to see it come up on shuffle, happy to show off to friends.

8 - Amazing song, I can't stop repeating it. Standard above what I'd expect from Big 3. Always in mood for it, never skip. I purposely search for these songs when I just don't know what to listen to.

9 - Almost perfect, hard to image how to improve the song. I never skip these songs and is always happy to see it. Top 10% of music in my library.

So when you factor in compression, my 7 is like most peoples 9s.

I understand why people love Cry for me. But the only reason I rated this song so high is because of the second verse. Me and the song just doesn't mesh well.
