Do you think the scandal benefited (G)I-DLE??

Obviously not from a personal perspective. I'm sure all the girls are hurting and went through hell this past year, but from a business perspective, do you this the year-long hiatus & the scandal actually benefited them?

They not only made a comeback, but they came back knocking down the door, guns blazing, taking no prisoners, Melon Top 10, RAK, highest sales, highest charting, everything. I'm wondering could this be attributable to the scandal?

Like maybe they were absent for so long that the GP got left wanting more and anticipating just built up (a la Blackpink) - I don't think this is the case since Neverland were never that big or rabid of a fandom that could still maintain the hype after months of silence. Even now we're pretty lazy and no one is streaming the video, it feels like it's all the GP.

Or maybe they benefited because the GP knows what they've gone through and felt sorry for them that they decided to check it out and turned into a fan?

As I already said in a previous thread, it's hard to say.

If IDLE's current success is a byproduct of the hiatus/controversy, then it won't last long and we will find out soon.

If it stays this way, then it'll be more likely that they would have achieved success anyway, based on the great momentum they built from LION to HWAA. No controversy means they would have been able to strike the iron while it's hot, collecting schedules and deals all year long. No controversy means they would still have stan attractor Soojin within their ranks.

All attention is good attention but a scandal is a high risk high reward scenario. It got a lot of people interested in their comeback (though let's not pretend Idle weren't popular already) but if people disliked their song they would have gotten so much shit for it

could Gidle have done even better but for the scandal?

would they have done worse if soojin was still around

To me I don't think so.

IDLE would have had another comeback before this and build more momentum. And this comeback could probably be just as successful or even more successful after their last 'comeback' (that would have happened but didn't because they had to lay low)
