I think that personality does play a role in popularity, but it all starts with visuals that draw people to the idol in order to learn more about their personality. Like, when you find a very cute idol and you're like, holy shit, I need content RIGHT NOW! And when you watch their stuff, you get a taste of their personality, which leads to you stanning them. That's just what I think tho.

In general kpop doesn’t care about making “influential” music that’ll inspire the next generation. Especially when many groups don’t have a musical identity and just shell out the newest trendy sounds. And that’s completely fine. It’s pop music, they’re not trying to reinvent anything.

Last artist I can think of that’s probably “influential” in kpop is probably Rain since many dancers and idols still reference him and his old work.

It’s weird when people claim idols don’t rely on visuals just because they don’t exactly fit Korea’s supposed beauty standard. Like okay cool, but that doesn’t mean they’re ugly af.

I think K-pop groups are popular for multiple factors: music, visuals, choreography, fan content. You can't pinpoint it to only one thing.

My faves have good songs

Kpop is a mix of a lot of factors we can argue having the best discography but it’s all about the brand image, talents, the mv, choreography...I mean if you think about being a kpop stan is more entertaining and cool than following western artists

I think music, concepts, brand, visuals, choreographies, high budgets mvs, singing, dancing, rapping, self-producing, fan content and interactions etc are all what make K-pop popular. It happens because every group has a different strength and selling point, so multiple groups can appeal for different people's taste.

Imagine If every group had the same selling point. If It wasn't what appeals to me, I wouldn't be here.

Their selling point or what makes them different is the fan content and emotional attachment they generate with fans imo. Visuals, fashion, choreographed performances, fancy stages are also what makes them different.

The music is catchy and they mix different genres but other than that they dont bring sth new to the table

1. That’s false. Seo Taiji and the boys are a testimony of that. They literally changed the music scene

2. That depends honestly. It’s true kpop is very much influenced by western music but I think some acts can add a lot to their music, especially when they incorporate traditional elements like Idol being based of Korean instruments

3. True. I think the musical styles and concepts all form part of image and branding. And their supplemental contents help to build up their fanbase by making them feel more connected to their faves. But I think this happens for all acts out there and not just kpop.
