Favoritism aside and I’m talking very objectively…. other groups better release now because when BTS actually releases a full album then it’ll be the year of BTS.

People keep forgetting Butter was the best selling album in Korea despite it being an English singles album and no real Korean promotion. At this point BTS is relying on reputation and word of mouth.

Can they keep it up though? Who knows….

Gaon is the official chart, endorsed by the Korean government and it's the most reliable source. They do indeed report shipments, but unsold albums get eventually removed for their reported numbers, so what Gaon reports ultimately is actual sales.

Korean government doesn’t “endorse” Gaon persay. The Korean government uses Gaon as their basis to tax Korean Entertainment Companies for their sales to retailers.

Also not all unsold albums get sent back to distributors. Distributors sell albums in bulk to retailers to resell. Distributors have no obligation to take back unsold albums by retailers.
