The hate this song gets is totally mystifying to me.
The production is impeccable, it just sounds so good. The instrumental makes me think of a modernised version of Abracadabra. Super clean and pristine and really minimal. Like, idk, like how Beyonce's Love On Top sounds vs. its inspirations: Chord progressions clipped to the essential steps, all clutter removed. You gotta be confident in your work to basically just forgo all accoutrements and gimmicks like that.
But it's also not, you know, lazy or rote. The instrumental develops as the song goes. The choruses have totally different instrumentals with the exception of the bassline. But on a casual listen you don't even notice because the build is so seamless and natural.
And on top of all that.. The lyrics are so witty. Like perhaps the cleverest Twice title track, probably the first time I felt like their b-side lyrics ended up on a title.
Recently I ranked Twice's singles and Scientist ended up at... Number three.

It has potential but in my defence I am sleep deprived.

Fucking awesome. Love this.
When i think of Twice title tracks, the top 2 is set in stone for me - WIL and Heartshaker. After that, several different songs have risen to #3 including Knock Knock, DTNA, LOA, Cry for Me and now Scientist.
This song is so insanely catchy, the synth percussion perfect, The Feels gets so much hype but Scientist deserves it all
