Why can't SM girl groups deliver good stage performances?

    not just girlgroups but boygroups too

    also HYBE groups too besides BTS and SVT


    it doesn't have to do with training, they just can't find the trainees with stage presence, maybe cost of focusing too much on vocals and visuals,

    aespa really lacks stage presence, their perfomance was disappointing

    SNSD were good though, but yeah it feels like their recent groups are not up to par compared to YG & JYP

    Red velvet are some of the most boring performers I've ever seen. They were part of the reason I thought ggs were bad dancers with shitty choreographed when I first got into kpop. They give us nothing on stage and aespa seems to be following their footsteps.

    i mean it's easier to "perform" if you have heavy backtrack/lip sync like Twice.

    I liked a lot of 2nd gen from SM. SNSD, Super Junior, TVXQ, EXO, and Shinee were great performers and made it where even if I didn't like a song I would still watch the performances on loop. New groups from SM are just not for me.

    SNSD exists so not all their girl groups.

    SNSD were good imo and i'm not even a sone but yeah i agree their more recent ggs are lacking as live performers.

    I don't really know what went wrong down the line. SM groups used to be hella charismatic in 2nd generation but for some reason that kept dwindling down with time. They could uphold their high standards for vocals and dancing but not stage presence, I don't know why.

    TVXQ had one of the greatest stage commands and showmanship in kpop's history and super junior and girls generation always looked like they had so much fun on stage which always made their performances enjoyable and engaging. But the newer groups, specially the ggs often look dead inside on stage, like they want to be anywhere else but the stage.

    not only did aespa lipsync as usual, they served zero charisma. they looked like a bunch of dancing robots up there.

    they lack the it factor, can't dance and they're frowning too hard.

    because they are given uncomfortable clothes. How can they slay the stage when they are given shorts and skirts?? smh

    they should give them comfortable fits

    it's really sad how aespa as a rookie group they are doesn't seem to enjoy performing and lack passion for it. Now is just their 1st year, imagine when they get to 3rd,4th year?

    lol imagine saying SNSD don't have stage presence while praising yg and jyp those 2 companies be trying copying soshi for a time and keep failing hard in doing so :*:*:*

    idk maybe my standard is that high?

    they look luckluster compared to ATEEZ, SKZ and MCND (they are prob the only 4th gen boygroups that I find having some stage presence )

    like ATEEZ did this when they were rookie

    the reality is SM top management is bunch of oldies that is so out of touch with the fans wants. LSM is even saying that lipsynch is part of a genre. Hate that old man setting his groups up.

    All that money in the dumb BM animation could've gone into better outfits, new choreography, better props or something. Big snake even took the budget for aespa. They are not like Jyp for example, that actually puts in the works and time to arrange good stage and it's always top notch. SM could never.

    SNSD were amazing and Red Velvet had their moments . . . aespa hopefully they'll let them sing live sometime, maybe that'll help them to be more engaged idk

    overdoing dance moves and face expression is not good stage presence

    only itzy has good stage presence

    I think the root of the problem is the desperate need to achieve an image of perfection. First of all it prevents idols from singing truly live, which in itself will automatically make them more engaging and emotive. 2nd, it's very limiting performance wise, they're made to replicate the choreography perfectly to a T with no personal input which ends up making them look like robots. NCT too had this problem in their rookie years but they're so much better now. In fact I think this is a problem with newer kpop generations in general but SM is probably the worst offender.

    The dance isn't necessarily as sharp as you'd expect to see from newer groups, but they're singing live and always look like they're having a blast on stage. They're not simply recreating the choreography as closely as possible, they're putting a show on, and they have enough experience, freedom and confidence in their skills to improvise both in the singing and dancing, which always makes even performances of the same song vastly different from each other.

    Idols nowadays are deprived of the freedom to improvise, their performances look like a carbon copy of the dance practice but with shiny clothes, it you watched one performance of a given song then you watched them all. and it seems newer SM idols have it the worst.

    you're talking about groups with lot of experience though (not an excuse but a valid point) there are definitely things to be improved but i think enhypen is already some of the best performers of this generation.Maybe watch their mama perfomances from yesterday because those ones really impressed me
